Re: We Have Shire-Reeves, not Sharifs

FVPOA ·
Perhaps I should have said "at the time" shire was another word for county? Personally, I'm all for bringing back some old words, our language is shrinking. I read recently that the word "counterpane" was archaic. Obviously, whoever said that hadn't been to the hills of Tennessee.

We Have Shire-Reeves, not Sharifs

FVPOA ·
I’m not Jeff Sessions’ biggest fan, but neither am I his biggest critic. When someone doesn’t like someone else, they usually think the worst of that person. Case in point is some criticism of what Jeff Sessions said yesterday. The position of sheriff is an English office. The word sheriff is a contraction of the words shire and reeve. Most of us know that shire is another word for county. Some may not know that a reeve oversaw various functions in the English counties before there was...

I arrived carrying programs I'd printed, while she arrived...wearing reindeer antlers. She had many stories that she freely shared. I particularly loved the ones about her Baptist mother. Years ago, there was a topic on here about anal sex for women. FV posted that medical professionals don't advise it since there's approximately a 25 times greater chance of transmitting infection to both partners, plus damage to sigmoid colon. A woman replied that just because a nurse advised against it, she didn't speak for everyone. FV got a huge laugh when still another poster replied, "Well, she speaks for me!"

Using GRE scores isn't "dumbing down." It's simply apples and oranges. I took the new GRE for my graduate school admission. It's CAT, so it became harder as I went along. Since the GRE tests verbal skills to a great degree, this seems like a logical choice for future attorneys to take.

The salient point is that you have to prove intent. The penultimate fact to consider is why take such a circuitous route to pass information? Simply making passwords unprotected? Why not transmit any state department "secrets" directly via burner phone type devices?

If anyone likes to drink, that's their business, but please don't do it when outside in cold weather. When alcohol is ingested, it filters the heat to the dermis (why you feel warmer), but that makes it much easier for the heat to leave the body, plus it robs vital organs of heat. If you give alcohol to anyone who's been out in freezing temps for 30 minutes or more, you just might kill them. You're also going to miss that question on your first aid certification test...

No, the Salvation Army does not help these unfortunate people. In order to receive any shelter from the SA, one has to apply and be approved, and then the time is limited to a certain number of days a year. Room at the Inn takes anyone. If your power goes out, as it did in Killen the other night, you can spend the night at their designated shelter. If there's a gas leak in your neighborhood, you may seek shelter at one of the designated church buildings. If anyone is waiting for the...

I would guess that was the case with the soldier. Re: Former Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinic Manager: “It’s a Demonic Organization”

What you're referring to is an induced abortion. These are performed, usually, in clinics who specialize in these things. BTW, we do not support induced abortion as a form of birth control. Our comment was in reply to your comment on the legality of disposing of fetuses. Hospitals usually have some each year due to spontaneous abortions and they are disposed of with other medical waste. No laws broken.

Kraven, I think you'll find that you're mistaken about "any act" in your list being a crime. Stillborns and spontaneously aborted fetuses continue to be disposed of via incineration with other medical waste in many hospitals. While not the U.S., there were reports not that long ago that this medical waste was used to heat hospitals in the U.K. Not a pleasant thought? No, it isn't, but many parents can't afford to bury these stillborns and don't want to bury the results of spontaneous...

Slate's take: https://slate.com/news-and-pol...for-voter-fraud.html Another possible take: When I was in high school and college, it was pretty common to refer to campaigning and even effusive greetings as "voting." I've not seen where the policewoman lied, but she certainly had no reason to like Moore, so her testimony could be suspect. While there are no mall records on banning anyone, the mall manager goes to the Y with Roy and he and his wife said they were casual friends and planned to vote for him. Someone should have delved more deeply into the various stores where former employees said Moore was banned. That sound's more logical than the entire mall banning an ADA.
