I suspect that the biggest reason that opioid use has skyrocketed is that it's cheaper to treat the symptoms rather than fix the problems of patients. I might also note that states that expanded Medicaid coverage are seeing the highest number of opioid overdose deaths, so placing folks on goobermint healthcare probably ain't the fix.
