The DoJ Inspector General report caused the FBI Office of Professional Responsibility (internal affairs) to recommend McCabe's firing.  Which AG Sessions agreed with and did so.  Except for Sessions, all off those are career civil service and insulated from Trump's influence.

To explain federal pensions, all civil servants hired and politicians elected since 1986 are under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS).  That consists of a combination of Social Security, Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), and a small annuity (from $8,000 to $14,000 annually).  The TSP is like a 401(K) with 5 percent matching.  There is also a small payment for those retiring at 55 until they draw SS.  McCabe will most likely lose the annuity and payment for retiring at 55. Social Security is protected by SCOTUS decisions.  Government might get their 5 percent matching back from the date McCabe lied. TSP is privately managed. Employees pay their fees.

Pensions are under law of contracts, which the constitution protects from even congress.  Only treason and violating the espionage act completely ends a federal pension.  For instance, an FBI agent spying for the Russians got life in prison. He lost his pension, but his wife got 50 percent.  Julius Rosenberg lost his pension. Obviously, Ethel, his wife, got nothing.   Federal employees convicted of lesser crimes have their pensions curtailed at the date of their first illegal act.

Time for the next step, prosecute McCabe for lying to the FBI. Perhaps, he could get a cell next to Flynn.
