Reply to "Reagan Didn’t Close Down Mental Hospitals"

This claim is refuted by the Congressional vote record and the actual bills. Republicans should try reading instead of trying to blame everyone else for their problems. I posted this in another topic and don't have the time/energy to argue with stupidity on two fronts.

Reagan put the costs of mental health institutions on the states. Reagan also gave the patients the power. They could only be helped if they asked for help. Patients were put in charge of their own medication and general care. In turn, states closed facilities as the funding dwindled. It's all in plain english for anyone with reading comprehension.
On a side note, Hinckley, who shot Reagan, was mentally ill and had spent the last 30 years in a mental institution.
