Generating energy to power a laser shield on small craft like fighter planes will be a major engineering feat. The Brits have field tested energy shields on tanks. Never read the final results, but I suspect the thing was too fragile for use at present. However, give the engineers a bit of time. Old Scotty did miracles, but not spontaneously.
