B-man, I was there Saturday night for an artillery shot. They packed the cannons with steel wool so sparks flew out of the cannons. It was cool. The first day was the battle of the "Sunken Road" or "Hornets Nest" where the good guys won the battle. There was almost a half mile row of cannons that the Confederates had. That is not counting what the Union forces had.

145th Anniversary Living History Weekend (Tentative)

Saturday March 31, 2007

8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.....Confederate Encampment Open to the Public..........Camp Area, between Tour Stops #2 & #3. The public is welcome to visit the period campsites. These sites will display how an army would have pitched camps with company streets and equipage. Six Sibley tents will show visitors how Confederates spent the night of April 6, 1862, in captured Union camps.

8:00 a.m. to 4Red Faceo p.m..Navies of the American Civil War ...........................Visitor Center Area
Chuck Veit and members of the U.S. Naval Landing Party and Navy and Marine Living History Association will discuss the roles played by the navies in the Civil War. He will also describe daily life at sea, ships, weapons, and the part the Union navy played in the Battle of Shiloh.

10:00 a.m...........Artillery Demonstration............................................Cloud Field
Reenactors from Morton`s, Turner`s, and Bankhead`s batteries will describe the types of cannon and ammunition used during the Civil War and how to load a cannon. Firings will demonstrate how an artillery battery can fire by gun, by section, or by battery.

11:00 a.m............Infantry Demonstration ...........................................Cloud Field
Infantry reenactors will present information on the common soldier and his uniform and equipment, and will perform tactical demonstrations, which will include weapons firings.

12:00 Noon.........Cavalry Demonstration............................................Cloud Field
Company D, 7th Tennessee Cavalry will present mounted demonstrations. These presentations will provide information on cavalry tactics, weapons, and horse equipage. The company will also perform a saber drill, demonstrating the cavalryman`s ability to use the weapon both offensively and defensively.

12:30 p.m............52nd Regimental Band - Civil War Music..............Camp Area
The 52nd Regimental Band, based in Memphis, Tennessee, will perform popular and patriotic songs that Civil War soldiers would have sung.

2:00 p.m..............Field Medical Demonstration..................................Cloud Field Confederate medical reenactors will demonstrate the equipment and tasks of Civil War medical personnel.

2:30 p.m..............52nd Regimental Band - Civil War Music..............Cloud Field
The 52nd Regimental Band, based in Memphis, Tennessee, will perform popular and patriotic songs that Civil War soldiers would have sung.

3Red Faceo p.m..............Combined Arms Demonstration ..............................Cloud Field
This demonstration will combine artillery, cavalry, and infantry on the field at the same time. A narration will describe how the three branches would participate in a pitched battle as the combined branches conduct weapons firings.

Special Notes:
*Be cautious around horses and mules, open fire pits, tent ropes, and camp equipage.
*Black powder weapons produce severe noise; be mindful of your hearing, especially children. Concussions from cannon will activate car alarms.
*Inclement weather will cancel all programs.
*Pets are permitted only on a leash. Bear in mind that loud noises might frighten animals.

$3 per individual or $5 per family (Regular Park Entrance Fee)
