If you've been driving on Florence Blvd around Newbern's Catfish restaurant then you've seen the moving of dirt and work going on just to the east of the restaurant.  Looks like there is a new bank being built along with a small strip mall for good measure.   I believe it's a First Metro Bank but I'm not so sure about that but it is going to be a bank and a small strip mall, I suppose, to help offset the bank's cost for building and land.

I know what some will say about yet another Bank, heck I didn't know that many people had that much money around here to keep all the Banks busy and in business but guess I'm wrong about that but at least it's more growth and building and that's a lot better than stagnation and loss of businesses.

I do love to see investments at work here in the Shoals Area. So whose ever bank it is, will not have to undergo the expense of building a reinforced concrete & steel "Vaulted Safe" in which to store all the members money. Instead just secure room in which to store a "Server" linking to the main frame Server & banking Software where your financial information will be stored & saved.

As many of you already know, every detail of people's finances could be collated and stored in a digital "vault" under plans being developed by the Government.

Who Need Cash or hard currency anymore? All banking transactions can occur digitally. Electronic Dollars, no need for paper currency & the cost associated with printing money. Just worry about hackers.

Hackers and government having complete fiscal power over people.  Or, when the power fails for days, as it did in Huntsville when the 27 tornedoes marched thru.  Besides the $60 or so, I keep in my wallet, I keep $100 in ones, fives and tens at home.

Physical banks are on the decrease, why would anyone build a new one is beyond me.  That would be a wasted investment. It is nice to be able to do most of your banking online, even down to shopping for loans. It is nice to see new development though, and more businesses, but that is a busy part of 72.  I live near there, and have witnessed several wrecks.  People want to wait till the three lanes become two to get over, braking and moving into traffic.

If I had my way, there would be no more commercial truck (18 wheeler) traffic on Old Huntsville Road between 72 and Wilson Dam Road.  All trucks would be sent to the business route, up through the lights at Lowe's.  The right hand lane of north Wilson Dam Road would be a turn only lane as well, with no truck traffic. Traffic on 72 eastbound would be forced to merge before the strip mall (light at HSV road) to prevent the inevitable backups that occur there in the afternoon traffic.
