I mean really, who knew healthcare could be so hard?

----------------------------------------------

Republican leaders of the House of Representatives pulled legislation to overhaul the U.S. healthcare system from consideration on Friday due to a shortage of votes, despite desperate lobbying by the White House and its allies in Congress, dealing a stiff setback to President Donald Trump.

Republican leaders had planned a vote on the measure after Trump cut off negotiations with Republicans who had balked at the plan and issued an ultimatum to vote on Friday, win or lose.

It was unclear whether the bill might be rescheduled, although Trump told the Washington Post, "We just pulled it."

Amid a chaotic scramble for votes, House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan, who has championed the bill, met with Trump at the White House before the bill was pulled from the House floor after hours of debate.

Without the bill's passage in Congress, Democratic former President Barack Obama's signature domestic policy achievement, the 2010 Affordable Care Act - known as Obamacare - would remain in place despite seven years of Republicans promises to dismantle it.

Repealing and replacing Obamacare was a top campaign promise by Trump in the 2016 presidential election, as well as by most Republican candidates, "from dog-catcher on up," as White House spokesman Sean Spicer put it during a briefing on Friday.

if you had a test coming.. and you had 8 years to prepare for this test.. and you failed miserably... you have no one to blame but yourself. period. how many millions of dollars were wasted on 'repeal the ACA' votes? now that republicans control both house and senate, they can't even formulate a plan that republicans will back.  and yet, OBAMA!

For 7 years, the imbeciles on the right have chided obamacare, even though they (with the help of Lieberman) crippled it, and have told their ignorant voting base... just get us in there and we will fix all your problems with healthcare.

That being said, they introduced this turd of a bill that priced elderly out of the insurance market, gave carte blanche to insurers to deny coverage for things like maternity, prescriptions, mental health and substance abuse, and gave a large tax break to wealthy investors.   Luckily we have enough sane people on the right side of the aisle to shoot this thing down.

NOW, after all of that pomp & circumstance about letting them get in there and just fix it... they have now... wait for it.. per Paul Ryan ... ."MOVED ON FROM HEALTHCARE!!"   LOL.   What a bunch of idiots and idiots who voted for them.

For seven years demobumercare failed every year and it's on it's last
communist legs now and can't last another eighteen months.
Talk about idiots, morons and fools, now one person read it when
voted for it. What the Republicans didn't vote for was still better than
anything the "born this was ways" could have come up with in fifty yrs.
Still plenty of time.

What do you not understand monkey boy about the mess your obummer boy, and I emphasize boy, has gotten the USofA in with his FAILED obummer care. The present administration not only has to come up with a plan that will work, but are faced with getting out of the mess they were left with. Sort of like working on a vehicle that needs fixed after some idiot has already worked on it and did not know what he was doing. If the dummercrats are so smart, how come THEIR plan has failed miserably. That being said, now who's stupid, stupid!

Actually letting the issue go will be best for everyone. Dems and liberal independants created it when they had a three fifths supermajority in the Senate before Scott Brown was elected to fill Ted Kennedy's seat, something that the Republicans haven't had since Reconstruction. To fix the mess created by one party rule will take both parties working in good faith and that will only happen in an emergency setting.

I believe next year the "Cadillac Tax" kicks in on health plans and the Risk Corridors (Insurance company slush funds) are empty, so union working folks and insurance companies won't be contributing money to politicians in 2018 who don't get busy. If insurers lose more money this year and even more companies pull out of the exchanges, Ol'bamadidn'tcare repeals itself. You can't buy insurance without insurers in the market.

Like Crash and MUBM previously stated, the republicans had seven years to come up with a better plan.  They failed.  What does that say about them?  Are they geniuses? Masterminds?

You might be the only 7 year planner when they never considered
beating hilda before she surfaced as such a perfect disaster as
your baraak and his democare to boot.
At least the America plan was read before hand, unlike the failed
socialist version. Remember the Pelosi brain fart about pass it and
then read it.

Absolute BS. Pure and simple marlarky. You have done no such thing as talked to people that were ALL happy with this unaffordable mess!

It's difficult to look at what's happened with the Republicans and not look at it as a loss for Trump.  I don't think, though, that Trump will let it get him down though but that he will pivot over to Tax Cuts or some other promise with a return back to healthcare legislation.   What is really embarrassing for the Republicans, or I would think so, is that when Obama was President they passed many bills for repeal and yet none of those is seeing the light of day with Trump as President.  That being the case it seems it could be argued that the Republicans only passed the bills because they knew Obama would never sign them.  It's a cop out.   That said Obamacare deserves to die and never should have seen the light of day because it is, at it's core, unconstitutional and I, personally, don't care if Chief Justice Roberts invented a way for it to be declared as Constitutional.   AS I see it he deserves part responsibility for this mess because he declared it constitutional because he declared it to be a tax, something that even the Democrats who passed it and came up with it claimed it wasn't.

The free market should be the avenue for Healthcare and Insurance and not the government deciding for everyone and forcing people to obtain any product.

As far as Trump pivoting on to other parts of his agenda I do feel that if he is not successful with the promised tax cuts, particularly for Business then he risk the stock market tanking as well as the promises from businesses looking forward to a tax rate cut being pulled and a downward spiral from there.  But I don't think that will be the case or I sure hope it won't be.

The only people he talked to, if any were prisoners and congressman.

7 full years to formulate a plan to replace the ACA... after 60+ votes to repeal it and untold millions wasted, the plan the republicans come up with wasn't even backed by republicans. hahahahaha!

forum republican response... 'jt, you're so dumb. we're winning. '

muslim ban ruled illegal, TWICE.

trumpcare can't even get a vote.

when exactly does the winning start?

They think because they duped a lot of low information voters into voting for a reality star who made fun of a disabled person, insulted gold star families and admitted to sexually harassing women, that they are somehow "winning."   After all, this is the party of the religious right.

Despite all of the aforementioned winning, the courts shoot down their unconstitutional policies and the squabbling brats who blamed everything on "the black guy", can't even agree on an insurance policy because they all want different levels of screwing of the public.   They all have to get on the same page as to which rich white people are going to benefit the most before they really start winning.

I guess one thing they are winning is the vacation tally.   For years all we heard about was how much Obama spent on vacations, and now Trump has already taken six trips to Mar-A-Largo and is already close to a quarter of the way to the money spent by the Obama's in 8 years.   At this rate, they will definitely win the most money ever spent by tax payers for a vacationing President.

Good ol' Trump supporters, raised mortal heck about Obama and the vacation money now again stuck with egg on their face as their orange skin Q-bert looking savior fleeces us all of our tax dollars.  I've said it before, but my God, it is just an outrageous comedy of errors.  Where's that fiscal responsibility?

Obviously it isn't when it was never meant to be healthcare in the
first place, how many were thrown into Medicaid, they did this
because healthscam isn't written to provide organized sufficient
care.

They did the best thing they could do....left it alone. Within five years the current system will implode. Way more than the projected 24 million are going to lose their coverage including most of the Medicare recepients as more and more physicians are going to stop accepting it.  The ACA, ObamaCare, will in the history books be noted as the greatest failed experiment of healthcare legislation in the history of the US and will be responsible for putting millions of American healthcare workers into the unemployment line.

I agree, except I can't see it lasting two years and it shouldn't
be labeled as medical. Early on they said the ADA wasn't entirely
written for healthcare but mainly for redistribution for the sake
of restitution. They would never give it a life time span because
the Single Payer plan was wanted for a final result.

Everything baraak did or tried to do was for a socialist
muslim culture. hilda was all set to carry this out when
her turn arrived. Between those two it wouldn't take
sixteen years to finish off the country, and so goes the world.

Reminds me of all the crap the right wing media said before it passed.   How all this doom and gloom would happen really soon... death panels, freedoms taken away, making people go to fat camps, deciding if mentally retarded people were worth the effort... all nonsense from blowhards who subsist on fear mongering.   Sadly, a lot of people believe in the fear and it's a very useful tactic for the Right.

If Republicans fail next at reforming the tax code and we remain on the Ol'bama trajectory, I'm betting on a recession next year. Businesses and the stock market have been betting on getting pro-growth policies and have gotten the cart before the horse. Small businesses will have to manage with fewer employees, large businesses won't invest in the US and keep their money overseas, and state Medicaid budgets will blowup because even those in the 100-138% range will fall below 100% of the Federal Poverty level and the goobermint freebie money disappears.

Monkeys Uncle,

Everything that was predicted with this tripe has come to pass. You can call them death panels, but most of us in the know called them "insurance panels" which decide what they will and will not cover, or how they want the patient treated.  Insurance companies are retreating from these Obamacare policies like crazy because they are not making money on them and the government is not paying like they promised....surprise, surprise.  The premiums are going up faster than they ever did prior to its inception.  The insurance companies now just decide they will "stop offering" a policy.  The previous "gold level" plans are now silver and "silver level" are bronze, yet the prices have gone higher. The physicians are being compensated less and less for the care, and new rules make it harder for a cancer patient to get their diagnostic tests performed in a timely manner. I say, let it implode.  Take everyone down with the ship, then institute a new government plan where you put the healthcare workers on a government retirement plan.  Jack everyone's taxes up another 20% or so to pay for it and lets get it over with.  If you want European style care, let's make it happen.

I wouldn't bet on single payer anytime soon. Even Gov. Moonbeam is getting cold feet:

Gov. Jerry Brown, in Washington warning about the billions his state could lose on the eve of a Republican effort to repeal and replace Obamacare, strained Wednesday to understand the logic behind pushing another system like single-payer.

Where do you get the extra money?” Brown asked in an extended chat with reporters. “This is the whole question. I don’t even get ... how do you do that?”

Universal healthcare has gained in popularity, particularly among liberal groups in California, as an answer to what they see as the undermining of Obamacare. Sen. Ricardo Lara, D-Bell Gardens, has introduced a single-payer bill, and Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom is formulating his variation of a health plan he said would be based off of his work as mayor of San Francisco.

Brown remained deeply skeptical.

“This is called ‘the unknown by means of the more unknown,’” he said. “In other words, you take a problem, and say ‘I am going to solve it by something that’s ... a bigger problem,’ which makes no sense.”

Stanky, what tax changes would have to be passed to call the republican tax change successful? If they stay as they are, is that failure? I'm retired, living a very drab existance and paying about 10 to 12 percent on what I draw. When I say drab, I don't have fancy vacations, I can buy the wife, kids and grandkids presents, plenty to eat, no new cars and I didn't have to give up anything because of money shortages. For me the current tax system is not killing me. Will the republican changes help me?

The answer is easy, any change that promotes economic activity increases the future viability of Social Security and Medicare. We paid in to the government to take care of our parents and our children and grandchildren are paying in to cover us, with a small savings account to cover what the kids can't cover. The kids need good jobs to cover the bills and an increase in economic activity will help. Of course, the voters could vote for more entitlements and regulations, hike taxes enough that they kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, and we become the green soylent.
