The Obama administration did its best to keep this from happening. One must ask why.

"The United States is challenging Australia and Qatar as the world's largest exporter of natural gas, according to a new report by the International Energy Agency.

Global gas demand is expected to grow by 1.6 percent a year for the next five years, with consumption on track to hit almost 4,000 billion cubic meters by 2022. China is projected to account for almost 40 percent of growth.

"The U.S. shale revolution shows no sign of running out of steam and its effects are now amplified by a second revolution of rising LNG supplies," IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said in a statement Thursday.

"Also, the rising number of LNG consuming countries, from 15 in 2005 to 39 this year, shows that LNG attracts many new customers, especially in the emerging world," Birol added.

The U.S. is already the world's largest producer of natural gas. The IEA estimated that by 2022 the country's production will be 890 bcm, more than a fifth of global gas output.

The IEA said the United States will challenge Qatar and Australia as the highest exporter by 2022 with more than half of the natural gas produced to be converted to liquefied natural gas for export.

In a bid to increase export demand, three major LNG terminals under construction on the Texan coast will double the number of U.S. ports currently in use.

Industry driving demand

Future demand will be driven by the industrial sector, according to the IEA, as its traditional use in power generation is trimmed by a growing mix of renewables and coal.

The report added that increased liquefaction capacity is coming into a market already well supplied, and the glut is driving down prices to interest new countries such as Pakistan, Thailand and Jordan.

But it warned that disruption to traditional routes of energy supply was a likely outcome of cheaper, export LNG, and highlighted the current diplomatic standoff involving Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

"Even in a well-supplied market, recent events remind us that gas security remains a critical issue," Birol said."

For about five years, the Russian Disinformation Bureau has used Greenies. First in Europe, now in the US, to attack fracking.  Fracking for natural gas and oil is the major threat to Russia's oil and natural gas, the major contributor to their economy.  Trump is enabling the industry in the US.

From The Guardian, 19 June 2014

"The head of one of the world's leading groups of democratic nations has accused Russia of undermining projects using hydraulic fracturing technology in Europe.

Anders Fogh Rasmussen, secretary-general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato), and former premier of Denmark, told the Chatham House thinktank in London on Thursday that Vladimir Putin's government was behind attempts to discredit fracking, according to reports.

Rasmussen said: "I have met allies who can report that Russia, as part of their sophisticated information and disinformation operations, engaged actively with so-called non-governmental organisations - environmental organisations working against shale gas - to maintain European dependence on imported Russian gas."

From the Washington Examiner, 27 January 2015

"A shadowy Bermudan company that has funneled tens of millions of dollars to anti-fracking environmentalist groups in the United States is run by executives with deep ties to Russian oil interests and offs**** money laundering schemes involving members of President Vladimir Putin's inner circle.

One of those executives, Nicholas Hoskins, is a director at a hedge fund management firm that has invested heavily in Russian oil and gas. He is also senior counsel at the Bermudan law firm Wakefield Quin and the vice president of a London-based investment firm whose president until recently chaired the board of the state-owned Russian oil company Rosneft."

PUNGESTI, Romania ” Vlasa Mircia, the mayor of this destitute village in eastern Romania, thought he had struck it rich when the American energy giant Chevron showed up here last year and leased a plot of land he owned for exploratory shale gas drilling.

But the encounter between big business and rural Romania quickly turned into a nightmare. The village became a magnet for activists from across the country opposed to hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. Violent clashes broke out between the police and protesters. The mayor, one of the few locals who sided openly with Chevron, was run out of town, reviled as a corrupt sellout in what activists presented as a David versus Goliath struggle between impoverished farmers and corporate America.

Gazprom, a state-controlled energy giant, has a clear interest in preventing countries dependent on Russian natural gas from developing their own alternative supplies of energy, they say, preserving a lucrative market for itself  and a potent foreign policy tool for the Kremlin. Everything that has gone wrong is from Gazprom, Mr. Mircia said."

From the Daily Signal, 10 July 2017

"The sources include a former secretary-general of NATO, who is quoted by the GOP congressmen as saying:

Russia, as part of their sophisticated information and disinformation operations, engaged actively with so-called nongovernmental organizations environmental organizations working against shale gas to maintain dependence on imported Russian gas.

This anti-fracking campaign seizes upon environmental issues and health concerns that could be used to constrain U.S. drilling and fracking exercises, the letter explains.

Gazprom, a large Russian oil company, stands to benefit if Russian-funded environmental activism results in reduced levels of fracking and natural gas production in the United States, Smith and Weber tell Mnuchin. They write:

It is easy to see the benefit to Russia and Gazprom that would result from a reduction in the U.S. level of drilling and fracking a position advocated for by numerous environmental groups in the U.S.

I did not know anyone in my circle of friends & business affiliates who made the conversion to compressed gas for their cars. Local public outcry to outfitting cars to LPG, concerns of explosions occurring during car accidents.

However, I do recall in the 70's, either Pepsi or Coke Distribution Trucks did retrofit LPG tanks on their fleet trucks. Not sure if LNG was in use during this time period.  Don't know if they are still using them or reverted back to diesel, due to lack of dollar savings vs. diesel. During their use, I never heard of a truck with LPG tanks, exploding during an accident.  Majority of concern was for Cars & rear in accidents=Explosions.

It takes about 1.4 gallons of natural gas to equal the energy output of 1 gallon of diesel. All decisions will be based on economic's for fleet trucks to convert. Taking into account expensive Hybrid engine cost burning multiple fuels and cost of LNG.

It's a good thing for American frackers that greeny loons prevent drilling in the more "enlightened" parts of the world; it lessens competition:

Yes, as one may see, much of Europe, including Germany and France has shale oil for the fracking.  Yet, the UK is the only nation I've read about that's considering fracking.  The Russian influenced watermelon greenies (green on the outside and commie red inside) have stopped other efforts.
