The DoD Missile Defense Agency is located at Redstone Arsenal.  At present, there are 44 anti-ballistic missiles (ABMs) located in Alaska and one at Vandenberg AFB in California.  There were supposed to be more, but Obama ended the deployment of already built ABMs.

At present, the US had nothing stationed at Guam.  There is a test site in the South Pacific that might be able to do so. We fire an ICBM at it every year or so, to test the existing ICBMs and ABMs as a by product.  The THAADS stationed in South Korea and Japan can only shoot down an ICBM on the rise, not when it reaches MACH 8 or higher terminal velocity.  The Aegis missile on US destroyers and frigates are capable of shooting down those at the higher altitudes and speeds.

The US can turn North Korea into a glazed parking lot -- while endangering South Korea, Japan and, perhaps, the US with fallout.  Hope the proposed laser triggered H bombs were developed -- no fallout, just a big blast.

Stopping Kim, God only knows.  Personal fear, a Chinese assassin or a heart attack from his diet.

Why would we stop Trump. He's turning around all the harm done by Obama over the last 8 years.

1, What are the chances a North Korean warhead could reach Guam without being shot down?

2. What are the chances that if North Korea did launch an attack, the U.S. wouldn't be able to blow them off the face of earth?

3. Is there anyone who can now stop Kim or Trump?

Dire? Anyone?

1. What makes you think that N. Korea can even hit Guam with a nuke? There is some speculation that they might be more interested in just frying electrical grids and equipment with an EMP burst nearby and that can be accomplished in space or upper atmosphere before an interceptor hits the warhead.

2. The Norks have had about 65 years to dig bunkers and hidey holes, so getting the leadership would be difficult but with a centrally planned economy socialist created human disaster, destroying the transportation infrastructure and other necessary things to supply troops and the populous will be easy. After a couple of weeks with no fuel, food, and other supplies, China might get its just deserts for all its help when its borders become crowded with deserters. For a couple of weeks, the Air Force will be really pushed to get all the Nork's heavy artillery around Seoul .

3. It's up to the N. Korean leadership and the countries who prop him up to decide to stop him; Trump's job is to protect the US and to respond to attacks and provocations. If little Kim decides that suicide by smart bomb is the way to go, who's to say he shouldn't get his wish.

To generate an EMF storm requires a megaton or more.  That's an H bomb.  So far, the Norks have only fielded A bombs -- kilotons.

Most of the US ICBMs have warheads in the 1 to 1.5 megaton range.  However, there are a few 5 megaton warheads -- mountain crackers, we reserved for the Soviet leadership.  Reagan explained to the politburo, we knew where they were and there was an ICBM with their name on it.  Helped to clear their heads and negotiate.

I might note that the Norks apparently haven't figured out how to to keep their warheads from burning up during re-entry. Kim is saber-rattling.

There is a lot more involved than just crazy Kim and the Norks.  With a GDP of $15.9 billion, the Norks didn't make all this progress on their own. The Persians have shared technical developments and, one suspects funds, as well.

With US funds from the Persian pacification bribery deal as well. Thanx Ol'bama!

I also might note that China has given the Norks help as well with technology from White House sleepovers and money from economic surrenders. Thanx ol'Clinton!

Assuming Kim attempted an attack on U.S. territory, does our intelligence community know where the N. Korean prexy is at all times? Would they drop a MOAB on Pyongyang? Pardon the nit picky question, but does Kim have a bunker that would protect him from such a weapon?

At any rate, today's skinny says N. Korea is simply announcing its plans to test missiles near Guam and not actually attack. Hmmm, nice of them.

Assuming that Kim can be found, he won't be able to find a deep enough hole to hide in:

I suspect that as far as the Norks plans to test missiles near Guam, that might be the best accuracy that they can achieve at the present. Then again, if they try to miss Guam, they might actually be able to hit the island. The Norks might not be at the point of having a strategic weapon right now, but they do have a good terror weapon. In a year or so they might have a H-bomb and in a year or so more they might have one that can be mounted on the present ICBM design, or they can improve the accuracy of their missiles such that their low yield A-bombs will detonate close to their targets and have a strategic weapon system. Of course, they could already be at that stage given the politicization of the intelligence agencies of the Ol'bama era. The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in Ol'bama's administration determined with some confidence that the Norks had already achieved that capability to make a miniaturized weapon in 2013:

Most of the world leaders have hidey holes.  A mountain cracker nuke is usually the weapon of choice against such.

MOAB = Massive Ordinance Air Blast

The MOAB is not a penetrator weapon and is primarily an air burst ordnance intended for soft to medium surface targets covering extended areas and targets in a contained environment such as a deep canyon or within a cave system.[7] High altitude carpet-bombing with much smaller 230-to-910-kilogram (500 to 2,000 lb) bombs delivered via heavy bombers such as the B-52, B-2, or the B-1 is also highly effective at covering large areas.[8]

If I am not mistaken, the MOAB is only capable of being delivered by the C-17 transport in our arsenal at this time. That aircraft is relatively slow and unprotected compared to the bombers at our disposal. It would not be considered as a useful weapon unless all of the defensive emplacements surrounding Lil Kim were silenced. This would not be a weapon of first choice in this scenario.

The bomb was reportedly used on an Islamic State tunnel complex in Afghanistan's Nangarhar Province. A U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command MC-130 Combat Talon transport aircraft dropped the GPS-guided bomb out of the cargo ramp.

But you're right, Teyates.  Not an aircraft to use in areas heavily defended by "Triple A" or SAMs or w/o fighter support.

But most penetrating "bunker busters" mentioned above could be dropped by fast movers conventional and stealth bomber / fighters,  but most importantly - missile.

For specs on the C-17 = https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...C-17_Globemaster_III
