Alabama vs Florida State as starting off the 2017-2018 College Football season a first preseason #1 vs #2 matchup come September 2nd.  There crazy thing is regardless of who loses its likely as long as the team doesn't lose another game through the season they could meet again in the four team playoff at the end of the year.  Much better to lose at the seasons beginning than at the end.  Also for both teams it is an out of conference game so they still could easily win their own conference and wind up being both top rated at the years end.

For the Tennessee VOL fans it looks like Tennessee had been looked down upon to start the season all in a year Butch Jones really needs to secure some signature wins to avoid fan revolt in VOL country.  Tennessee starts off the year not even being mentioned in the top 25, not that it really means anything though.  Starting off against ACC's Georgia Tech could give them some early credence or a devastating loss which would set many on a pessimistic outlook for the soon to follow, must win to complete in the SEC East, Florida game.  Tennessee fans are always crowing about how they are going to beat Bama each year but somehow lose sight of Florida and/or Georgia and become irrelevant before they ever make it into the third week of October.  Each year Tennessee says this will be their year and true to form they give Alabama a tough game usually but Tennessee best worry about Florida and Georgia first and take Bama as Bama comes.  Roll Tide, War Eagle, Go Vols, How bout them Dogs it's almost time.

You are correct about an early loss. Both still could win their conference and make the playoffs. Which could include a second game.

As far as Tennessee goes,... if Butch Jones doesn't do more than make the Vols "Champions of Life" this season, he may be out as head coach.

I see Bama vs Georgia for the SEC Championship. Gotta love SEC football. RTR!!

With regards to the potential SEC Championship matchup, unless Auburn totally messes up Alabama's run to the Championship by defeating them in the IRON Bowl, then there (my opinion mind you) is a better than average chance that Saban will be playing one of his former assistants in that game.  Florida has been the team for the last few years but this year Smart could have the Dog's ready for action, as you alluded to in your comment.

As you surmised though any team, other than Tennessee, in the SEC East position competing for the SEC Championship will mean Butch Jones will have a lot more work convincing the VOL fanbase and AD that his plan is working and he deserves another year or so given that he has been working with his chosen recruits totally for the last two years.  Last year was to be Tennessee's year to shine and was a given in many of their fan's eyes only to be grossly disappointed particularly with the South Carolina loss.  This year with the loss of their senior Quarterback and main running back they are going to be a "dark horse" team if they are to surprise anyone.

As I said many Tennessee fans scream and shout and taunt Alabama fans about how this is the year that they are going to take Alabama and they forget that they have to go through Florida and Georgia first and that gauntlet hasn't' been too good to the VOLs over the last years.  Last year they only got past Georgia with a last second hail Mary miracle play and I doubt that Kirby Smart will allow his players to forget that happening so this year will be much harder for them.  I'm with you RTR!

Looks like Lee Corso and the ESPN Sports Center crew will be in Atlanta for the opening weekend to highlight the Alabama vs Florida State game.  Anyone doubt that Lee Corso will pick the Seminoles to defeat the Tide?    I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that Lee has a tough time picking Alabama to win but then with his overall record it may be best, for Tide fans, if he doesn't pick Alabama.

This seems like the game of the week and the first game in the new Mercedes Benz stadium.  I have a hard time wrapping my mind  around the over 1.5 BILLION dollar price tag especially when the "old" Falcon's stadium seemed like it was in great shape.  Alabama had pretty good luck in that stadium so lets hope they continue to have the same luck in the new stadium.

Crazy things going on in Atlanta.  You have Turner Field no longer valid and replaced by another stadium north of town and they are talking about just tearing it down and I haven't heard what the fate of the old Falcons stadium will be.   Really makes you appreciate the New Orleans Superdome lasting all these years.   If it had been in Atlanta they would have been on their fifth stadium and surely would have scrapped it after Katrina's use.

Will Robert Lee be among them?

Oh No..!!! Not Robert Lee again....

ESPN’s Play by Play announcer Robert Lee, will not be in Atlanta.  As you probably already know, ESPN decided he will be announcing the Youngstown State vs Pittsburgh game. Ironically, which coincidentally (Youngstown, OH) happened to have been the countries major hub back in the 1920’s for the KKK, of all things.  ESPN keeps stepping into more racial divide doodoo at every move. I feel sorry for announcer Robert Lee, being placed in a situation his own network created. Makes you wonder if ESPN wants to gain attention, in the worst way for ratings. I hope Robert Lee’s career is not tarnished by the joke that he’s the “Racist ESPN Play by Play Guy”….who got reassigned from Virginia game due to his “Name” and  the sensitivity concerns of such, to another game where his name has  more acceptance connotation affiliation with Youngstown OH and the KKK. Look what a mess ESPN has Created all by themselves. This kind of stuff just drives me crazy, just pure-dee madness. I just want to enjoy some college football. ESPN Needs to Keep their left leaning Politics Out of College Football and stick to what they do best...and not these kind of things.

Wait for it! He will be forced to change his name or be fired.
