Belk has given Salvation Army bell-ringers and their iconic red kettles the heave-ho --- just in time for the Christmas season.

The national department store chain will no longer allow Salvation Army volunteers to man kettles outside their stores -- a move that is expected to result in a $1 million drop in donations.

"It's a huge impact for us," Salvation Army Lt. Rob Dolby told the Todd Starnes Show. "Those funds go to operate Christmas programs serving tens of thousands of kids.

Dolby works with the Salvation Army in Anderson, South Carolina. He said the money dropped into those kettles also funds the operation of shelters, addiction and treatment facilities and youth programs.

The Salvation Army said they were told the department store ban had something to do with a change in Belk's "social consciousness."

“MAYBE BELK IS UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT — POTTER, SCROOGE AND GRINCH, ESQ.” – TODD STARNES

“We believe that a lot of Belk’s customers align with the Salvation Army’s views. We believe in saying ‘Merry Christmas’ because we believe Jesus is absolutely the reason for the season,” Dolby told the Todd Starnes Show.

So why — after all these years – did Belk decide to stuff the Salvation Army’s kettles with a lump of coal?

A company spokesman told me they decided to go in a different direction with a new “social impact program” as part of their “Home for the Holidays” campaign. And by holiday — I’m assuming they mean Christmas (but who knows?).

Belk has decided to partner with Habitat for Humanity International to raise $600,000 to build a house.

“There is great power in all our Belk associates and customers rallying around one cause – and we really want to focus all of our efforts on this impactful campaign,” the Belk spokesman told the Todd Starnes Show.

Certainly, Habitat for Humanity is a noble effort — but what harm is there in allowing the Salvation Army to set up kettles outside the department stores?

“The Salvation Army does a lot of important work in the community — and perhaps there will be opportunities to partner with them in the future,” the spokesman said.

To help offset the losses — the Salvation Army has set up a website where you can lend a helping hand.

Belk certainly has the right to kick the Salvation Army to the curb – but that does not make their decision right.

I just can’t imagine what the folks in charge were thinking — especially for a company that advertises itself as “Southern.” Maybe they’re under new management — “Potter, Scrooge and Grinch, Esq.”

Desperation met stupidity on the corner of bad luck and despair, and the democratic party was born.

First, let's give the source of the article credit (wouldn't want to steal, now would we?)

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion...my-bell-ringers.html

Second, many don't give to the Salvation Army since it's a church just like the Methodist or Baptist or other entities that tell you their way to get to Heaven.

Third, if you really want to help others this year, why not give to the Help Center or Room at the Inn? Yes, churches are affiliated with these endeavors, but it's not one church teaching a specific doctrine.

And don't forget the lesser ones among us:

The Salvation Army provides services for all.  In WWII, if they hadn't helped provide for the POWs, many would not have survived, including my father.  The Red Cross didn't do it all.  FYI, I contributed to Room at the Inn.

Yes, that is funny. "Large and in charge marge" tells us why folks shouldn't donate to the SA, gasp, it's a Christian organization, then proceeds to tell us where we should donate. I never heard of any of them, maybe they're branches of hilliary's charity, but "marge's" endorsement is enough to tell me I don't want to give to them. This atheist has been donating to the SA, among other legitimate charities, all my life. I don't need some demoslop prancing in telling me where and to who I need to send my money. And yes, todd starnes name all over the piece kind of gave away it's source! LOL!

Gee, looks like another case of leftist and COC hypocrisy. I think "large and in charge" knows where  to find the info.

I would seriously suggest giftedamateur learn to read.

Room at the Inn: https://www.roomintheinnshoals.com/about

It is, you can see, not a church of Christ organization. If anything, the Presbyterian Church has done most to assist this project.

Help Center: https://www.facebook.com/Help-...ama-206417446459330/

As for press releases, that "rag" you mentioned publishes approximately 50% press releases, the rest are original articles. This is a higher percentage of original content than the TD, no?

Oh, and that "rag" doesn't post ANY press releases without listing credit. If you don't list the source and you didn't write it, yes, it's stealing. Oh, and that's just for articles the author wants shared. We can guarantee that FOX News wants more than credit, it wants the hits which copying/pasting takes away from them. At one time, the TD would delete these copy/paste articles; however, it looks like there are now so few readers of this incarnation of the forum that even the TD doesn't care.

Props to Dire for donating to Room at the Inn!

Yet she has no problem with programs that the COC supports or uses to tell you their way to get to Heaven.

Once again, you show a marked lack of logic. The Savation Army is totally behind those red kettles which say "Salvation Army." Yes, it's a hard concept for some.

As for HASRA or the Help Center, the church of Christ has absolutely nothing to do with those two organizations. Yes, there is some church of Christ involvement with Room at the Inn; however, I support it because I'm pretty much politically opposed to people freezing to death on a cold night. Sorry that Best doesn't feel the same.

Again, the Help Center and Room at the Inn are a combined effort of several organizations. The Salvation Army is not. Neither the Help Center nor Room at the Inn nor HASRA has a worship service on Sundays at which they tell you how to get to Heaven. The Salvation Army can't say the same.

On second thought, HASRA may have some preaching on Sundays:

Again, you mouth off about the Salvation Army then proceed to tell people who you deem worthy of donations. Are you trying to suggest the Salvation Army, and Best and others that donates to them, wish for people to freeze to death? You're a bigger idiot and ***** than I first thought. I wouldn't give a dime to your off the wall charities.

Let's all note that giftedamateur calls the following charities "off the wall":

Ho, ho, no.

Is the Grinch the Christmas mascot at Belk this year?

When the Salvation Army launched it’s annual Red Kettle Campaign Nov. 17, they found out the welcome mat at Belk stores across the South had been withdrawn. Red Kettles are no longer allowed at Belk, entrances during the holidays.

The move will cost the Salvation Army in Anderson approximately $20,000 dollars.

“It was one of our best locations,” said Lt. Rob Dolby, Officer Commanding at The Salvation Army in Anderson. “It wasn’t Belk that was giving us any money, it was their customers. We really believe that Belk’s customers want to give. It’s disappointing.”

Dolby said the loss of funds is particularly difficult this year with the closing of the Anderson Kmart, where kettles generated more than $5,000 each holiday season.

The $25,000 loss will hit hard the Anderson Salvation Army, which has been here for 110 years.

“Belk changed their giving consciousness, which is to be very blunt, a lot of corporations are doing to avoid allowing faith-based organizations to raise funds,” Dolby said.

The ministry serves 1,500 children each Christmas in Anderson, and dozens more with the caregiver program called Silver Bells. The group also operates a emergency shelter on Tolly Street, which houses 40 people every night, and an additional 25-35 when the weather is cold. They also served more than 38,000 meals to those in need this past year., and provided emergency utility assistance to more than 1,700 this year.

The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs serves 104 children with after-school enrichment and summer camps. Dolby said that 85 percent of those who participate in the programs “get A’s on their report cards.”

He said Anderson is facing a crisis in family homelessness, and the ministry’s current two rooms for families is not enough.

“We need to add three more rooms for families, because we are seeing more and more families living in their cars,” Dolby added.

Nationwide, Belk has 300 stores in 16 states. The refusal to allow Red Kettles for the holidays will cost the Salvation Army more than $1 million this year.

To help make up for the loss, I am asking people to be generous this year by giving online,” Dolby said. Information on giving to the Anderson Salvation Army and about the services the ministry provides to the community can be found at SalvationArmyAnderson.org

Businesses interested in hosting a Red Kettle or tabletop kettle can also find information at this site.

Dolby also asked to remind citizens that the Salvation Army does not receive any government funding for their work.

He said other local businesses continue to be strong supporters of the Salvation Army in Anderson, including the Anderson Mall, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Quality Foods, Bi-Lo, Ingles and Hobby Lobby. Angle tree displays, where local citizens can find a local child or family to help during the holidays are hosted at the Anderson Area YMCA, Walmart, Chick-fil-A and a number of other sites across the area.

According to Andy Izquierdo, vice president of communications and social impact, Belk is launching a new social impact strategy in December called “Home for the Holidays” that The Salvation Army doesn’t factor into.

“We're partnering with Habitat for Humanity to build a home with a family. During this holiday season, we're asking our customers to contribute what they can toward this wonderful cause,” said Izquierdo. “There is great power in all our Belk associates and customers rallying around one cause — and we really want to focus all of our efforts on this impactful campaign.”

Izquierdo stated that though Belk has never had a formal contract with The Salvation Army, there has been a longstanding tradition of allowing Salvation Army bellringers to stand outside of Belk stores.

“The Salvation Army does a lot of important work in the community, and perhaps there will be opportunities to partner with them in the future,” he said.

For now, the Salvation Army local facilities will have to find ways to do more with less. To volunteer as a Red Kettle ringer or to donate, visit the website.

COC "logic"

Good-"Room In The Inn is about Christians putting the tenets of our faith into practice".

Bad-The Salvation Army Mission Statement

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

1. Can anyone tell me what the "universal Christian church" is? At least the Salvation Army admits it's a church.

2. "Putting animals before people?" I listed two charities (LOCAL charities btw that don't pay their workers, but use volunteers) for humans and one for canines. Somehow I think in our great country with Internet, entertainment streaming, and video games, we have enough money to assist both humans and animals.

3. While I'm neither Democrat nor Republican, I have the ability to present faults in either party without bringing in extraneous issues or resorting to childish name-calling.

4. Didn't Sirwasabi present an extremely salient point?

Why don't you contact the Salvation Army and ask them any questions you may have? Childish name calling? You're pretty good at that along with your snarky remarks. I've never known you to point out any fault with the Democrats. Quite the opposite, you are one of their cheerleaders.

As posted earlier, you have some kind of  problem with the Christians that make up the Salvation Army, and the people who support them. You list who you think should be supported instead. One of those is an animal rescue. Enough money to support both humans and canines? I'd say enough to support the Salvation Army too, but no, no Salvation Army for you, but you want to tell us where you think our money should go. So yes, you put animals above the people the Salvation Army helps.

As for "Wasabi", that's Contendahh as you well know, and as far as he's concerned the only good animal is a dead animal. You can talk to his animal killing ***. He can leave again for all I care. I have no interest in anything he has to say, and almost less in your opinions.

Ah, Contendah, one of the most intelligent among us; however, his politics are usually a little too liberal for me. That's usually, not always.

Can you show me one Democrat I've supported outside Doug Jones? I voted for Trump, mainly because I was sure Hillary was going to cash in her chips pretty soon, not to mention I think she's about as honest as Al Capone. I voted for Robert Bentley. You know...the Luv Guv...that worked out well. At this point I'm like Diogenes.

Not everyone has to like animals...or people. I simply presented three alternatives to the Salvation Army Church. I don't recall threatening anyone with an Uzi to make them give.

Snarky? Could be, but that's still not name calling.

While I appreciate Contendah's intelligence, I'm not a reincarnation of Contendah. People on these forums have a nasty habit of trying to labeling new members. They're usually wrong, as is the case once again.

Then why do both have the same IP address..??

It's my limited understanding of such things that only a moderator on a site can see IP addresses. So, Kraven, are you a mod on here? Also, many providers have dynamic IP addys which change frequently. Whatever addy Contendah may have had when he posted here is most likely long gone.
