A story in the Birmingham business news says that a company is targeting this area for avery large theme park / movie style production company that would employ several thousand and bring much needed jobs and business into the Shoals. I hope this is true and that we see it to fruition quickly.

Hillary in 2016?  Why not?  We've already had one "girly man" serving in office for the past 7 years, we might as well give her chance as well!

I am certainly optimistic, but skeptical. It would be awesome, but as much as we have going for us, there are just as many disadvantages to building something like this here. I won't be the first one to buy stock, seeing how hard it has been to even get a new hospital here, it would probably be 20 years before they ever broke ground on a project like this...haha

Odd that the number (1400 acres) in the news release and the number in this four year old TVA release match.  Let the speculations begin.

"Muscle Shoals Reservation Redevelopment

Colbert County, Alabama

In November 2011, TVA issued a final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed disposal of 1,400 acres of land on the Muscle Shoals Reservation (MSR) in Colbert County, Alabama"

These folks in North Carolina thought they had a big game changer, but read what happened:

The Randy Parton [Dollly's brother] Theatre was to be the anchor tenant of Carolina Crossroads, a 1,000-acre entertainment and retail development, with Randy Parton as the manager. While Randy Parton’s band played regularly, Parton didn’t book other acts to perform and attendance plummeted. As revenues fell, the city fired Parton and saw the facility decline.

I was working in Roanoke Rapids when this proposed venture was made.  The city fathers and county (Halifax) politicians and Chamber of Commerce types were all agog about how wonderful it would be. Now they are stuck with a big indebtedness.

Be very careful.

This makes me think of a year or two ago when my one sister, who lives near Harrisburg PA, sent me a newspaper article  about a man in that area that was trying to get investors so he could build a turn pike from Florence to the coast. The article was big, this guy sounded like he knew what he was talking about. I had to tell my sister that no one from here had heard anything about it. It was, I'm sure, a scam.

People can dream up great ideas. They aren't always feasible or legit.

God works in mysterious ways crustymac, This is a religious theme park and it will take over the shoals like a tsunami. Civil leaders here in the Shoals are all Christians and will espouse any effort to make this happen. People will come from all over the globe to be a part of this. All great evangelists will converge here to make this work of God possible. The ungodly will shrink from this work of God. If you don't want to be found wanting you better get on board.

Will there be a snake-handling show? a HEAL-ing line? A speaking in tongues venue? Occasional freak shows featuring big-time charlatans such as Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Creflo Dollar and the Crouch creeps?

The possibilities seem endless.  You might have something there, CountryBoy.

______

It is technically and theoretically possible for someone other than the anticipated buyers (cities of Muscle Shoals and Sheffield) to obtain the 1400 acres of TVA Muscle Shoals Reservation lands that will be auctioned off in the near future.  The lands will be the subject of a public auction and thus some entity other than these cities could show up and make the winning bid.

Thus, while it is unlikely that this Disney wannabee bunch will pull this off, it is not beyond the realm of possibility.

Or--to get really conspiratorial about the matter--maybe Muscle Shoals and Sheffield are actually shills, fronting for the would-be theme park developers, who are waiting in the wings to take the land off the cities' hands and proceed to actually build this Branson East thang,

Going against this is the high probability that if such a scheme were indeed in place, word would have leaked out by now.

And bfread07 the most religious place on the planet. Praise the Lord. All the judges and officials in this area are Christians. I can see them putting the fear of God into anyone who doesn't want to behave and be a part of something as powerful as this. I can see an aurora of heavenly glow seen for miles above this great city.

DreamVision isn't connected to Vision Land in B'ham; however, this makes three parks they've officially announced with no construction on any of them.

Been to Disney World lately, Best? I was there, reluctantly, with a family reunion a couple of years back.

The employees we saw were dominantly--VERY dominantly--Caucasian or African-American.  Can't recall seeing anyone who appeared to be of Arab origin.  Saw maybe 3 or 4 Asian-American types. What makes you think it would be all that different with a Theme Parkasaurus in the Shoals?

Nonsense, Best.  Your comment on Chinese and Arabs having "the jobs" obviously referred to jobs in the theme park. If that is not what you meant, then you should have worded it to say what you meant.

I know exactly what I meant. Don't try to tell me what I was posting. I was replying to the chinese and arab money for businesses and it had NOTHING to do with theme parks.

Why do try so hard to WEASEL out of what you posted?  You wrote, "One thing you can count on, it will be the chinese and arabs that have the jobs."  What does the "it' refer to other than the topic being addressed, namely the proposed colossal humongous theme park in the Shoals? Either you are such a sloppy writer that you do not know how to compose a sentence that says what you mean or you are determined to deny saying something because I called your ignorant hand on it.

I'm not weasling out of anything. I will repeat it, Chinese money and arab money means only Chinese and arabs hired. Has nothing to do with Disney world or theme parks. Speaking of the businesses the Chinese, Mexicans, Indians, Iraqis, Iranians, pakastanis, any "you name its", own. Can Americans get away with that kind of discriminatory hiring? Of course not.

You worry about the imaginary theme park. You sure don't need to be calling anyone sloppy writers.
