A Parable For Our Times
by Bill Moyers

The Christian story begins simply: A child is given, a son. He grows up to be a teacher, sage, healer and prophet. He gains a large following. To many he is a divine savior; to the rich and powerful he is an enemy. They put him to death in brutal fashion, befitting his humble beginnings in peasant Galilee and his birth in a stall thick with the raw odor of animals.

Toward the end of his life, Jesus preached in the Temple to large crowds, reaching the height of his power. There he told the parable that likely sealed his fate. He said there was a man who created a prosperous vineyard and then rented it to some tenants while he went away on a journey. At harvest time, the owner of vineyard sent a servant to collect a portion from the tenants, but they beat the servant and sent him away empty-handed. Another servant came, and they struck him on the head. Another they killed. Finally, the owner sent his own son to collect the back payments. “They will respect my son,” he thought. But when the tenants saw the son, and knew him to be the heir, they saw their chance to take full possession of the harvest. And so they killed the son, thinking now they would owe nothing from the vineyard to anyone.

This story is just like ALL the others in that book--A LIE! It is a morals issue and this story and all the other stories of that book are nice in theory, but in reality and if you believe in these things called facts, they are just not true... I see why the bible (buy-bull) is needed. Some people can't think on their own or factor right from wrong by themselves, but for rational people who were born with common sense, this book is a never ending cause of frustration... I am still amazed how many people think that Noah's Ark is a true story...When I was 6, I knew it was a lie and yet so many people just will not admit it...
In the story Bill Moyers refers to, the bad tenant is Israel. God, the vineyard owner, would take the vineyard away from them and give it to others. These others are those refered to as gentiles, or non-Jews. Although we today can maybe see how the story could be applied to the U.S., it is really just Jesus telling the Jews that they would no longer be God's chosen people.

Some questions: What is common sense and where does it come from? If it is "common" sense shouldn't we all have it? Do only people have common sense?
Bill Moyers = extreme, left-wing kook.

Air Amerika, btw, is bankrupt....and Randi Rhodes is getting sued for defamation speech she conducted on air back in summer 2005 against a security agency contracted to protect dignitaries in Iraq (nope, not Blackwater or KBR..). A judge ruled this week that Air Amerika's bankruptcy does not protect her from this....
Elijah, at what point do I say or refer to the fact that you don't have to pay for your actions? If people like me don't start speaking up, people like you will control everything... Hell, if it was up to you, the schools would probably teach creationism... In a science class no less... The whole point of this is that this just makes examples of things, like the buy-bull, but neither is actuall fact... I am not afraid of death because I use rational thinking...
It never crossed my mind that I might could control everything....I. like you, was just speaking for what I believe, I will accept the fact that you use common sense...I'm happy we were given both a common sense and a spiritual sense......as far as teaching creationism in schools, you would probably have to use your spiritual sense in that respect and if you don't have one, most of the material would be meaningless.....
