That's an area of the paper that needs "worked on".

While the new layout is nicer to look at (easier on the eyes) much fine-tuning remains undone.

For example, the color of the fonts make it difficult to clearly read the headlines, and they are neither emboldened. Second the fonts are sans serif, the use of which online, research has shown, decreases retention and learning.

As well, the overall layout is not conducive to the promotion of the site as a primary news service.

It seems more advertising revenue-driven. Not serving the information & news needs of the readers.

While there's something to be said for the effective use of space, there's simply too much improperly used space. The net effect of which, is that the site becomes difficult to navigate and less time is spent visiting it.

The TD has a customer base, for certain, and one which extends way beyond the blue... (I couldn't resist that one!), it actually extends way beyond the state, and making the site more ubiquitous (if it can be considered as such, by virtue of the Internet) will take more time to fine tune.

But, hey! It's not as if there are not other sites whose examples cannot be followed... right?
