While attacking Donald Trump’s immigration plan on his MSNBC show, Al Sharpton made a mistake that will likely make some of his Brooklyn neighbors unhappy. He incorrectly lumped Puerto Ricans in with non-U.S. citizens when he said quote, “people that were from Puerto Rico all would have to go back if their parents were undocumented.” Sharpton is wrong on Puerto Rico. In 1917, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Jones Act, making all Puerto Ricans American citizens. The MSNBC host’s miscue is a surprise, especially when one considers he was born and raised in Brooklyn, a borough of New York City with almost 200,000 Puerto Ricans.
