In a mass mailing that I received today, the Alabama Republican Party takes a number of truly cheap shots at Greg Burdine, candidate for the State House of Representatives. The ad asks, "Is Greg Burdine another Obama liberal?" Then it goes on to make several bogus guilt-by-association charges. Example:
"While many of our families are struggling to put food on the table and pay our bills, politicians suppoporting Greg Burdine voted to increase their own pay by tens of thousands of dollars--costing taxpayers millions of dollars."
How shoddy; how absolutely unprincipled! Sure, many state legislators--including Republicans--voted to increase legislative pay a couple of years back. That Democrats who voted for this increase are supporting a member of their party seeking office does not in any way create any reason not to vote for Greg Burdine. Would these same unprincipled propagandists complain that the Republican candidate for this office is supported by politicians of their own party who voted for this pay increase? Heck NO! They know nothing of consistency when it does not suit their nefarious purposes.
The ad is an insult to any thoughtful citizen of either party. Shame on the State GOP!
