Although Saban has over and over said as old as he is he's not interested in starting over at this age.  He's also voiced that he's happy here but given a few pieces of information one does have to wonder whether or not there is any fire behind the smoke.

  • Although Saban has denied the rumors of him deciding to go to Texas he also just as surely denied that he was going to Alabama while the rumors were circulating around about just that while he was coaching Miami.
  • The Saban's Georgia Lake Home has been put up for sale which is the home that he and Terri chose to go to for relaxation and to get away from Bama.
  • There is no doubt Saban's agent had talked to at least two of the University of Texas regents and there is also no doubt that if Texas is interested, which most all say that they are, that there is loads of money to offer Saban from the oil rich state and University.
  • Saban's daughter also lives in Texas and rumor has it that Terri Saban was escorted by Texas State Troopers looking for real estate which some wrote off because she is an agent and it could have just been a business trip.

The only ones that really know if there is any validity in the rumor are the Sabans and his agent.  Could be simple as the agent and Saban allowing such rumors to encourage a raise from Alabama, which is surely to be offered if not for sure to come.

One person I overheard, on the radio, discussing the rumors was upset about them to the point that he would hate Saban for leaving if he did, as he did at LSU, and many there still are still rare about it today.   My personal opinion (and that's all it is) is that IF Saban does end up leaving, whenever he does and however he does then Alabama, along with it's fans, should be thankful that Saban did what he's done for the University and team and regardless of where he goes still keep him in high esteem.  Then again I'm one of those fans who faithfully supports Alabama Crimson Tide but not to the point of having to hate Auburn.  In fact I love to see Auburn win and hope they do overtime except for the Iron Bowl and then of course root for Alabama.  The only time I reluctantly didn't hate to see Auburn win over Alabama was 2010 when Auburn had the chance at the National Championship and Alabama had no chance of going.

Other than Alabama, first, and Auburn, second, I always root for and support any other SEC school and root for them.  So yes I'm a Crimson Tide fan, first and foremost, but not a Harvey Up****, crazy insane fan to the point of having to hate other schools just because they aren't Alabama.

Roll Tide and hopefully keep Saban until he retires to some cushy commentator job with ESPN or some other Sports network.

I do sincerely do hope you are right.  It only makes sense given his age for any coach usually needs two to three years to start getting their recruits into the game and a team back on course and that would put Saban right near normal retirement age so his remark about age does seem sound.

I wasn't trying to stir things up but rather list some of the items that  would lend credibility to such a rumor and state that IF it were to prove to be true, this year or next, then rather than being disgruntled or angry, given what Saban has done for the football program that he deserves Alabama's gratitude and thanks even if he left for another school.  That's in stark contrast to what LSU or most of their fans, feel regarding Saban for they too should be grateful for he did bring a National Championship to LSU.  That was the point I was trying to make.

My opinion:   Saban is 62 years old.  Money is no problem.  It will take about 3 years for him to get the talent level at Texas up to national champ status.  He would then have a chance to be the only coach to win a championship at 3 colleges.  Right now at Bama, he has 2 in a row, 3 in 4 years and is favored to win this year.  He will be among the favorites next year, and for years to come which will make him the greatest of all time.  Which does he want?  Again, money don't matter.  Will Texas give as much control as Bama?

Was Coach Bryant's decision to retire in 1983 based on his health during the 1982 season?  He must have know something was up since he died so soon after his retirement.

And for Bamafans consideration...rather than rebuild Texas, what about Coach Saban being motivated to stay at Bama to tie or surpass the number of NCs won by Bear?

Well the job at Texas isn't open,... yet. Mack Brown is still coaching there. For now. I agree his tenure there may be up soon. But he is still the coach so there isn't a vacancy.

Another point to consider,.. Why would Saban make a lateral move. I'm being generous when I say lateral. Texas isn't even close to half the SEC teams much less Bama.

REALLY?????? But, but, but, what about all the other poor high school/college coaches that are not being paid three million a year?????

I didn't complain.  I'm not a Auburn fan.  I will pull for them against FSU.

Concerning the high school coaches,  99% of them, for what they earn extra, are doing it for the love of the game and love of working with and guiding the young men on the team.  If a college coach gets his team into the national championship game twice, someone will pay him six million a year.

Saban: 'There were no talks' with Texas

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama coach Nick Saban and the football team are moving on.

Saban has put to rest the speculation that he would replace Mack Brown at Texas by striking a new deal with Alabama.

For the third-ranked Crimson Tide, the focus is on getting over the loss to Auburn and trying to finish the season strong in the Jan. 2 Sugar Bowl against No. 11 Oklahoma.

Saban had said Friday night after agreeing to a new contract reportedly worth about $7 million a year that he planned to retire at Alabama.

He said "there were no talks" between his representatives and Texas and pointed to comments on ESPN that he "never considered going to Texas."
