So, I live in the HSV area now, with any sort of restaurant you can imagine. The Shoals area has changed in that way as well.

Still..I miss the simplicity of a place like Bonanza. I don't think there's an equal. It wasn't that nice, wasn't that fancy, but had a simple menu based on grilled steak or other meat, salad bar, and a self serve ice cream machine and bar. It was kinda neat how you could see the steaks being cooked behind the counter. Any comments?

There used to be a Pondarosa in Murfreesboro, but it closed a few years ago. I know there are a few Bonanza/Pondarosa restaurants left in TN, but I don't think they are as popular as they once were.

I remember the Bonanza in Florence, I think it was kind of like Quincy's. Order your steak and hit the salad bar. Simple concept, but I always liked it.
I was a Quincy's guy, but I liked Bonanza and Pondarosa decently well too. They kind of all the same to me but Quincy's had the Big Fat Yeast Rolls.

There is a Pondarosa on 43 in Lawrenceburg, and Bonanza's are still in Columbia TN and Tupelo.

FYI Nash - The 'Boro has one of my favorite places to eat but we don't have it here. Talking about Steak'n'Shake. When I go up there to visit my sister I HAVE to eat at the Shake. Have to.

My mom and I always went to the Bonanza in muscle shoals when I was a kid. It was located where rancho viejo is now. I remember the awesome simple dinners like hamburger steak with toast and fries. Anyone remember those huge blocks of cheese that were so yummy? Man..those were the days.

Actually that was Ponderosa. Bonanza was where Suntrust bank is now, beside McDonalds on Woodward. It closed long before Ponderosa was ever in Muscle Shoals. When Bonanza closed a few other businesses located in that building, one of which was an arcade / teenage hangout. I believe it was called Family's.

oh my bad! I GOT IT confused.I still could swear a place called bonanza existed where ponderasa was though.

You are not confused, the location you speak of was Ponderosa and prior to that was named Bonanza
Advantica owned Quincy's for years. They sold to a former president of the company who owned it for about two years (I've never heard that he had anything to do with Ryan's). He embezzled it under, and the bankruptcy court sold it to Western Sizzlin. They ran the chain for several months, then closed them down by pieces. I know they sold some to private owners and there are a few scattered over the Eastern part of the US.

Lawrenceburg still has a Bonanza type resturant on their main drag which is 43 N. Food is excellent for the money.

Ponderosa same owners as Bonanza

Ponderosa on Military (43) was owned by partners who also owned one in the Columbia mall. The L'burg owner bought out the other partner in 2003. As far as I know he still owns it. If you go, and he's there, you can't miss him--7 feet tall and 450 pounds.
