A friend passed this to me, can any banker or police types bunk or debunk this?

Cool if it is true

PIN NUMBER REVERSAL (GOOD TO KNOW)

If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from
an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in
reverse.
For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The
ATM
recognizes
that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the
machine.
The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to
the
robber,
the police will be immediately dispatched to help you.
This information was recently broadcasted on TV and it states that it is
seldom
used
because people don't know it exists.

In 2006, Michael Boyd pressed the Georgia State Assembly to pass a law requiring banks to create ATM panic codes that would operate the machines normally while also alerting police. His wife, Kimberly Boyd, was killed on 12 September 2005 after being carjacked by convicted sex offender Brian O'Neil Clark and forced to withdraw cash at an ATM. (She died when Clark crashed her SUV while being followed by a civilian who ultimately shot Clark to death afterwards.)
Such a bill is before the Georgia Senate, having been placed there on 29 December 2005. But nothing has happened on SB 379 since then.

The forwarding and posting of Urban Legends as fact hurts us all.

Awww, I was getting excited to know there was a way to ward off crime at ATM's, and then the snopes... Frowner So there still is no way in this area to protect ourselves?

Aside from holler your head off for help? Nope.
I think that living in a community such as the Shoals gives people a false sense of security. Even in small town Alabama, you still have to keep your guard up and be aware of your surroundings and cautious. Especially at an ATM. I mean, what better place for theives to strike? It's a machine that spits out money! Smiler

LOL, well, I DO happen to have a big mouth Big Grin ... But you are right... machines that spit out money ARE a crime waiting to happen.... Where did all the HONEST people go???? I actually remember when a handshake was a contract.... (1/2 a century experiences in this old brain) LOL
