I have been going to alabama games all my life, and as i have gotten older i have noticed that your average alabama/auburn fans life is affected by what there team does on saturday. Some examples

1. When i have my kid with me be a man and dont scream out obcenities.

2. Im pretty sure the coach knows more than you dont keep screaming that they need to pass the ball. (This is to alabama fans last year)

3. Im sick of people say We won we did this we are the greatest. I am an alabama fan I buy season tickets, but it is alabama i am not an alum. I have no connections to alabama if you are not an ALUM or a student or you dont have any connections with the school except you pull for them during sporting events do not say WE

4. To Auburn fans let alabama claim 12 NC and to Bama fans let Auburn claim as many as they want. Not all of alabamas would be true if alabama held themselves to the same standards they hold auburn to.

5. To auburn fans let the last 6 years go it is over

6. To Alabama fans let the past go College football will never be like the 60's and 70's

7. PAUL BRYANT IS DEAD AND LET HIM DIE REMEMBER THE PAST, BUT DONT LET IT RUN YOU

Lighten up, Francis. :P

I agree that shouting out naughty words is not the most intelligent or polite thing one can do, and if there are people around who might get offended (children, whomever) then one should try to refrain from the indiscriminate use of obscenity.

I'm pretty sure that people screaming that the team needs to do X or Y doesn't bother the coach, so why should it bunch your undies?

#3? Oh, no you di'int. I've rooted for Alabama since before ANY of the the players were born. You know what that means? They are playing for my team... I am NOT cheering for their team. Big Grin

1. Profanity never has a place, but especially in front of children

2. If I pay out close to $200.00 to go to a game, then I'm sorry, but I'm gonna yell. That's what people do at ball games. This ain't a chess match.

3. If you are an Alabama fan (or an Auburn fan) you feel a certain camaraderie with other fans and the team. The crowd has a profound affect on most sports teams. That's one reason they call it "home field" advantage. As a true fan, one feels as though they are a part of the team in a small way. So I will continue to use the word "we" even though I have never suited up.

4. Facts are facts. Alabama has won 12 national championships, and should have won more. Auburn has won one, and can make a strong argument for a second. those are just the facts. I don't have any idea by what you mean about holding Auburn to a standard. All Alabama fans hold "our" team to the same standard. Win a National Championship. That is what we expect every year. If you don't aim at the bulls eye, you don't have much of a chance of hitting it.

5. If I were an Auburn fan, I would throw it up in the face of a Bama fan any time I could, and hope they don't remember Alabama beating Auburn 10 times in a row.

6. The past is what makes tradition. Tradition is a great part of why I am an Alabama fan. I love going to the Bryant museum, and I have books on the rich tradition at Alabama. It is part of the total package of being a fan.

7. I don't know how to respond to this one. How can remembering the Bear, run someone? He was a great coach, and arguably the best. He is as much a part of Alabama football as Crimson Tide, Bryant Denny stadium, 12 N/C's, Big Al, Yea Alabama, and Rammer jammer. I will always remember the Bear, and I will never be ashamed of that.

8. Average fans do not do these things. Average fans go from team to team, never showing any loyalty. Average fans don't respect the great traditions of college football. Average fans don't remember those who made those traditions possible. Average fans are not passionate about "their" teams. They has just as soon go to the mall as watch their team play on Saturday. You see. I'm not an average fan. Alabama and Auburn are not average teams, and I am not an average fan.

I never said that #2 bothered your kids. I said it doesn't bother the coach. You know, the person being screamed at. If you let it bother you, that's your choice. People have been hollering out stupid things at ballgames for a very long time. It's doubtful that they're gonna stop just because you think they oughta.
Im not saying dont remember BRyant but up until Saban Alabama fans compared every coach to Bryant. Shula had a chance and lost his chance. Dubose also had a chance and screwed up, but Stallings won and was alway critsised by fans he won a NC and 10 games a year. Bill curry won 10 games his final year at alabama, but fans never accepted him. And that is what i am talking about. YOu cant compare everything to the 60's and 70's.
Smooth operator... actually bama's longest streak is 9 games isn't it?

As for National Titles... I don't care if ya'll claim 12 or 25... could care less. One of them happend in my lifetime('92). If you look over the history of the NCAA Mythical National Championships, check how things have changed since the NCAA leveled the playing field with limiting schollys for their programs, and also not ignoring obvious infractions by programs despite the "prestige" of the school or name of the coach.
Like it or not, Auburn and Alabama are equals now.... until the '08 season Auburn had actually surpassed Bama as a national player in football. Over the last 25 years Bama has accomplished nothing spectacular.... nor has Auburn. I think the competition causes some of that....fan expectations...and just the parody of college football. Bama was undefeated in '92... Auburn in '93 and '04. Those are the only spectatcular teams fielded in this state in a long time... they've both had several 9 and 10 win seasons....but undefeated is my gold standard and National Championship standard... espcially from the SEC. I think that is the objective truth of the situation in the state. Alabama fans have this ora of invinsibility due to the past and Auburn fans have a certain insecurity because of that.... Not this Auburn fan though... if a 50+ year old Bama fan comes up talkin about the good ol days of the Bear, I tip my hat and move on... if a 40 or lower does I roll my eyes and move on. Someone was talkin about facts...but to me it's more about WITNESSED facts... I was 14 during the majical '93 season for Auburn... that was really the first year I started understanding football and having a clear memory of what was goin on.... That's all I'm really comfy discussin.... except for Bo Jackson... there is no subjectivity there... he was simply one of if not the greatest athlete in history. Wink

That is where you are wrong, when it comes to NC's, facts are not facts. Do research and you will see that a few were rewarded retroactively (a 1981 Alabama media guide credits Alabama with 6, meaning after that point five were possibly added in the past 28 yrs), and by Alabama's standard of counting, Auburn could claim 8 (Auburn has been awarded this many by various polls, just like many of Alabama's). If facts were facts, I would have to question how the 1941 Alabama team finished 9-2 and #20 in the polls and got a NC (yes it was awarded to them by a poll, just like Auburn has some from various polls, but only claims AP, Coaches (formally UPI) and BCS).
UNAALUM.... WAR EAGLE!!!! You want AU to stop living in the past of our 6 yr streak...then AL fans need to stop living in the past of their championships. Football is football. I'm an AU fan and always will be. But I know for the next couple of years we are going to be in a slump just like AL was. If I had a dime for everytime I heard an AL fan live in the past of their championships I would be rich. But I'am going to say that I'm very proud of the way AL came out this year. It's about time. They deserved it.

Not JUST Ballgames!

I wasn't being a smart a**. Sorry if you took it that way. I just like your ending quote.

Yea, I think you are right. It was only 9 games. I was 31 in '93, so I do remember the glory years at Bama. I also remember the great Bo Jackson, and I agree that he was definitely one of the greatest athletes to ever put on pads. My post never intended to slight Auburn. It is just the my perspective as an Alabama fan. Auburn's 6 game winning streak was a great achievement, and I respect Auburn fans, but my point of view comes from that of a true Bama fan. I keep hearing people say that Bammer's can't keep living in the past. I don't think we do. We simply have high expectations because of the past. I think it would be great for an Auburn fan to reply to the original post in the same way that I did. Show why a true Auburn fan is different from an "average" fan.

That would leave Auburn with 1 NC. Auburn has only won 6 SEC championships. To put that in perspective.

Bama- 23
Auburn-6
Ga. Tech.-5
Tulane- 3

Facts are facts.

I know that would leave Auburn with 1 (from the AP, an overall respected source, not the Football Thesaurus or some guy that did his research last year and determined Bama should have gotten one back in the day). I am not denying that, but everyone knows when it comes to NCs facts aren't facts (especially when you look at my original points). My statements simply point out that the 12-1 argument is a bogus argument and when some Bama fans argue they want to use Apples and Oranges, depending on what benefits them. And when did it become 23? At the beginning of this year Alabama only had 21 SEC titles, which yes, in this case, facts are facts, but when it comes NC its an inaccurate argument.
for Smooth Operator

1. Thats a tuffy for me... I always try to watch for kids, but cussin sure does make me feel better after a bad play... LOL

2. Yes, we all have idiot fans that just scream "pass" or "run" without understanding what's goin on.... However, I am a very knowledgable guy when it comes to x's and o's. I've studied the games and drawn my own plays for 15 years.... And take it from a guy that has pulled for Auburn over the last couple of years..... Sometimes the coaches are just idiots. LOL

3. I tend to agree somewhat with the "WE" comment... i am an alum and Auburn is family... I say "we" because of that.

4. Already answered that.... at least 75 to 80% of all NCAA D-1 National Championships are mythical and very....VERY subjective. The process for naming a NC is just one notch above naming the winner of an ice-skating competion. It's a beauty contest more times than not.... ex... who was the best team this past season?? how bout '04... close to my heart of course because no one with a brain can say who the best team that year was.... like I said, it's Mythical National Championships most times anyway.

5. See, that's not valid to your arguement of letting go the past. The last 6 years are still very much part of the present. There are still players on both teams that played during that streak. It's also possilby a start to Auburn really dominating the state this decade... since we rolled over to the new millinium Auburn is up 7-2... That is part of the present.

6. You are right on there..... The 60's and 70's hold zero impact on what happens today, nor is it a defense for what happens today. Even the 90's are meaningless to Bama, but since Tubberville started in '99, his impact is still felt for Auburn... Chizik has to make his own positive stamp now.

7. Once again, I agree... I truely believe the obsession with Bryant hurts Bama on many levels in the present.
