Last week, I had a long feud with a left wing blog.  They insisted that with unlimited fiat money, the US has nothing to fear concerning the national debt.  After all, we've been doing it for 45 years -- where is the hyper inflation. I pointed out that an extremely wealthy nation can do dumb things longer than poorer ones, with the same sorry results, only later.  Invulnerable ignorance, thy name is liberal, progressive, Democrat, etc.

I guess everything is cool up to the time when folks stop buying our debt. Then we're SOL! I suspect that as usual that time will be a surprise.

California, NY state, Illinois, Connecticut, and Massachusetts were once among the wealthiest states (California, Illinois, and NY state still are in portions of the states).  Just goes to show that no matter how wealthy, the Democrats will wring every cent they can, then borrow beyond their ability to repay. There is no idea so outrageous, if its meets their mindset, that they will not throw money at it.

For all Alabama's messed up politicians, they are sober judges next to the lot that ran their states into the ground.

And, some still believe doing the same thing will result in prosperity -- remind me, what is a definition of insanity?

Governor Moonbeam of California, is a bit more fiscally responsible, than he used to be, However, he's still spending billions on a train to nowhere, while ignoring maintenance on the water projects leaking, in the midst of a severe drought.  The Governor of NY state has backed off recently and kept Comrade de Blasio from spending NYC back into the bankrupt status resulting from decades of Dem administration.  Unfortunately, they've learned a little, but not a lot.

If by "sober judges", you mean "too stupid to pass a budget", then I agree with you.

 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Passing a budget is a duty of the assembly and the governor.  Spending so out of control, the state raises its taxes so high businesses flee, tax revenues drop and debts can't be paid, isn't a duty.

Both parties hold some blame for the problem. Some Republicans will not agree to any new taxes. Some Democrats won't vote for a tax unless Medicaid is expanded.  Some Republicans wish to cut Medicaid and, thus, matching funds.  Park officials state parks may be closed. No analysis of closing for a couple of the slowest months of certain parks. Still want to spend $15 million of the Forever Wild program, but can pay to keep up what their have.

Citizens fleeing high tax Democrat states for Republican led states.  The five states that lost the most are also 5 of the worst listed at the start of this thread.

"In 2013, more than 200,000 people on net fled states with Democrat governors for ones run by Republicans, according to an analysis of newly released IRS data by Americans for Tax Reform.

"People move away from high tax states to low tax states. Every tax refugee is sending a powerful message to politicians," said ATR President Grover Norquist. "They are voting with their feet. Leaders in Texas and Florida are listening. New York and California are not."

That year, Democrat-run states lost a net 226,763 taxpayers, bringing with them nearly $15.7 billion in adjusted gross income (AGI). That same year, states with Republican governors gained nearly 220,000 new taxpayers, who brought more than $14.1 billion in AGI with them.

Only one-third of states with Democrat governors gained taxpayers, compared to three-fifths of states with Republican governors.

Top 5 loser states for Democrat governors in 2013:

·      New York (114,929 people with $5.7 billion in AGI)

·      Illinois (68,943 people with $3.8 billion in AGI)

·      California (47,458 people with 3.8 billion in AGI)

·      Connecticut (14,453 people with $1.8 billion in AGI)

·      Massachusetts (11,915 people with $1 billion in AGI)

Top 5 winner states for Republican governors in 2013:

·      Texas (152,912 people with $6 billion in AGI)

·      Florida (74,094 people with 8.3 billion in AGI)

·      South Carolina (29,176 people with 1.6 billion in AGI)

·      North Carolina (26,207 people with $1.5 billion in AGI)

·      Arizona (16,549 people with $1.5 billion in AGI)

The single largest net migration from one state to another took place between New York and Florida (17,355 people). "
