Big Labor got some big love from President Obama and congressional Democrats yesterday after they agreed to exempt union workers from the whopping “Cadillac tax” on high-cost health-care plans until 2018.

The sweetheart deal, hammered out behind closed doors, will save union employees at least $60 billion over the years involved, while others won't be as lucky -- they'll have to cough up almost $90 billion.

The 40 percent excise tax on what have come to be called "Cadillac" health-care plans would exempt collective-bargaining contracts covering government employees and other union members until Jan. 1, 2018.

This is CRAP! Everyone should end up with the exact same plan (if it even passes and I don't think it will). This is a classic example of discrimination. Those that are not in high union placed jobs with huge insurance plans get hammered with highers taxes because they didn't vote for Obama or the Dems.

To me there is no difference in this rule than with racism or sexism. If your not white you can't get the same treatment or if your a woman you can't get the same treatment. I'm not in a union so I don't get the same treatment.

Like I said...This is CRAP!
Not bashing the unions for their deal on healthcare, I mean it is the union's job to look out for their members not everyone else. This of course does not change the fact that I’m p!$$ed off over the deal because I fall into the group that will no longer be able to pay for their insurance plan with the 40% tax added and no it's not fair but no one ever said life has to be fair all of the time.
As for Champs remark about where the standard of living in the area would be without the unions, well without the AEA teachers might actually have to teach (most teachers are great but there are some that need weeding out and the AEA makes that very difficult if not impossible), We used to have a Ford plant here until the union kept making obscene demands. Ford did the smart thing and shut it down. Same scenario with the Kroger stores so now all we have for grocery shopping is Wal Mart, Piggly Wiggly, and a few small stores that do not have much of a selection. Reynolds which sold to Wise Alloys has made severe cutbacks in the number of persons employed and we can blame that on unreasonable union demands too. Did I mention I was not bashing them on the healthcare deal? Plenty of other things to bash them for. They did not look out for their members when they made irresponsible demands and should have known they were crossing a line that would cost several jobs.
Id like for one person who voted for Obama to defend him now. I remember that he promised that 'Joe Plumber' wouldnt have to pay for health care reform, that only the 'richest americans' would (half a million a year and more i think).

While at ECM, my health insurance cost more than $8500.00 a year (and would have been taxed at 40%). That would have been (and will be, im sure, for all current ecm employees) a big tax increase on me (at least $3400.00 a year, 8500 * 40%). And I promise you, I made in the lower half of the 5 figure income bracket. Thats a pretty big tax increase on me, after being promised I wouldnt have to pay for the health care reform.

Now, like I said, Id like to see all of you that support Obama explain this lie away....

Who is responsible for looking out for the average job? The government you say?

The government needs to stay out of private business! Notice that government workers are also exempt. I was just saying I can't knock the union leaders for this one as they were doing their job for the membership. I do hope that the rest of America will speak up in the next election(s) and vote the liberal nut jobs out for all of our money they are so feely trying to spend.
