BASIC RULES FOR DRIVING IN ALABAMA

What if there is an emergency. what if someone is trying to save their baby's life? Ain't you by bocking the only way to the hospital going to put you at the top of someones bad list? I know it would make me very mad.

You're missing the point of my original post...this happens when I am passing other vehicles in the right lane and there is nowhere to go except stay where I am and move over when I can. Perhaps someone IS needing to get to a hospital or something. Last time I checked the driving laws, speed limits and tailgating were still illegal. If you need to speed to get to a hospital, call 911 and let the people who have lights and sirens take you there.

If you quit poking along in the left lane it won't be necessary to call 911.

Oh learn to read.....GEESH....I'm not "poking along in the left lane"....I'm using it as intended....to pass someone in the right lane....it's the IDIOTS who climb my rear bumper when I'm not going 15 or more MPH over the posted limit who are the danger on the roads. At that point, I'm the one who taps brakes and slows down....you don't like it, that's too bad...just give me time to get out of your way and I'll be gone. Anyone who doesn't like that can just learn to live with it.

Ok,ok. You are the only one trying to do what's right. Everyone else is all screwed up. The left lane is for you exclusively.

You ARE correct that the left lane is for passing and faster drivers. What that means is that those going slower should be in right lane. That does NOT mean that if you are in the left lane, you are permitted to go OVER the posted speed limit or to tailgate. It also does not mean you are permitted to be an obnoxious moron (not calling YOU one, Kindred_Spirit!! ) by crawling on the rear bumper of the person in the left lane while flashing your brights in their mirror. Why can't we all just share the road without thinking it belongs solely to us?

You are correct too, no one should get on someone's bumper in the LEFT lane wanting them to go faster for THEIR needs... the speed limit is the speed limit... slower traffic keep right, left lane for passing... but you and I both know there are idiots out on that highway, so I guess WE have to be the ones watching out for them without stopping them to smack them ... lol!!!

I think we are both saying the same thing, I am just using the "slow" lane .. Being old, I can do that, right?

That is so true! When I moved to Atlanta I had the worst culture shock. I went from the Speed-Trap Capital of the South (Killen) to Atlanta. If you drive 60mph in a 55mph zone in Killen - you get a ticket. If you drive 75mph in a 55mph zone in Atlanta - you are barely keeping up with traffic. I still haven't gotten used to using my blinker again... but I am trying.
