I believe George McGovern is the reason that the Dem's super-delegate system came about to make sure the ignorant masses ( In the party elites minds! ) don't nominate an unelectable candidate again. To McGovern's credit, I remember that he left politics and bought a hotel that later went bankrupt. I remember he said that if he knew what effect government regulations that he supported had on business when he was a senator; he wouldn't have voted for them.

Sadder but wiser, much too late.  An excellent argument for term limits.  Let them get real world experience, preferable before serving.
