In his letter to the Times Daily today and the same letter in the most recent Courier Journal, Denton states the very relevant FACT that the law establishing the Alabama Music Hall of Fame (AMHOF) flatly states that the thing is to be located in Colbert County. Apparently this very significant factor has been totally overlooked by the desperate proponents of that failed venture, since they have been scrambling of late to find some new location for the AMHOF and have invited any and every county or city in the state to indicate such interest as they might have in adopting this big fat white elephant. Denton apparently is disgusted with the lot of them, as he makes plain in his letter, which can be found on the editorial page of today's (7/10/03) TD.

I yam what I yam and that's all I yam--but it is enough!

I neither contributed to it nor found any obligation on my part to contribute to it.  My personal interests lie outside the AMHOF. I find no burden upon myself to support something simply because some politicians, chamber of commerce types and local self-interest promoters ginned it up. As to peddling my "crazy", I submit that the truly crazy people are the ones who consider this long-demonstrated boondoggle to be susceptible  to a rescue after its 30 or so years of red ink.

I've actually been to the Hall on a few occasions and would love for it to be a success. Its actually always baffled me why the thing is such a flop. I would think that the folks involved with their connections in the music biz could line up concerts/fundraisers that would keep it going. Could you imagine someone like Jimmy Buffet playing at the Hall? It would draw tens of thousands and probably make the operating budget for years. I simply object to pouring more taxpayer dollars into after its been established this long and when it was sold as being self sustaining after the initial costs were paid.
