When Obama started this AHA, there were reportedly 47 million people without insurance.

After the AHA, 6 million lost their coverage.

After the AHA, 7.1 million people got insurance.

Of those who got insurance, 98% were new Medicaid enrollees.

So now we have spent 100's of million to insure 1.1 million new people, leaving 45.9 million without insurance.

On top of this we have raised the rates of insurance on about 67% of those who had insurance and managed to keep it.

I appreciate your humor, but in reality, there is very little humorous about this debacle.

I agree it has problems that need to be addressed. However, those problems SHOULD BE ADDRESSED, not throw out the baby with the bathwater as Boner's Congress keeps attempting to do.
I still maintain , we would be a lot better off with single payer instead of this Republican dreamed up system to appease the private insurance market, and maybe at some time we will get there.

One thing that could be done is to turn Keller into a "free" hospital, and all the doctors in the area donate a day a week, or whatever works out to practicing there to handle those without insurance.

Then, get rid of the mandate.

Would that work for you ?

sw, I wish there was afree clinic here that truly operated that way.  I have in the past gone for 7 day mission trips to Central America to see patients.  Most of the time we have dentists in the group, and an optemtrist to perscribe glasses (and even give these out for free).

SOmething like that would work here as well, but I have heard that others have said they cannot do this because of the legal ramifications involved, and I can see their point.  People get sued all the time, and no one wants to be sued in a situation where they are not even being compensated.

I watched the article on 60 Minutes last night about the healthcare bus in virigina.  I applaud their work, but they picked some really bad examples to highlight.  First was a lady complaining about being asked to pay for a doctor's visit.  She had smoked for 40 years, and her father had died from cancer.  Despite free healthcare when she was diagnosed (Stage IV lung cancer with brain mets) she died four months later.  She did not think she would be asked to pay because her father got free healthcare (in the military).  I am more apalled at her sense of reasoning than her total disregard for her health and lack of priorites.

I wish there was a state run hospital like we had in MS in the 60's/70's that provided care for indigents with doctors and nursing on training schedules.  that worked better than what we have now.

QD, read the article I posted earlier about the portion of the bill being put thru to help the AHA by Republicans, and the fact that nothing is bing made of it by the MSM, nor Harry Reid, because it does not support their agenda.  this is not entirely the fault of the Republicans.  There is hope to salvage parts of this, but it requires some compromise.

And QD, I don't support the factious remark you attributed to Boehner.  What I detest is the fact that many of us have to endure tax increases and rate increases, as well increased deductibles and lesser benefits, so that some can get crappy insurance.  If the money that was taken to set up this program, and then try to sale it, had been used instead to s**** up Medicaid and Medicare, no one would have seen the type of changes we are being faced with.  The debt clock would not be running wild, and there would be less fighting in the House and Senate. However, they did not ask me for advice, all they wanted from me was more of my hard earned money.

Sounds like you and I agree .
I understand about the libel concdrns in a society that sues over everything, and you and i have discussed tort problems before.

Even without single payer, we could have had a much better helth insurance situation if the Republicans had decided to  work WITH the president on health care rather than attempt to "make this Obama's Waterloo". After all, the ACA was their original idea to counter Hillarycare.
I cannot remember in my lifetime , where one political party has done so much to destroy our country just to spite a president as has happened in the last 6 years.
Personally, I lay most of the blame for this polarization on Fox and Rush, and later on on MSNBC. They make their money polarizing the country , but a righteous news organization would be working, trying to bring our country together.

t, you might tell us why you pay more taxes but you want the top %5 go scot- free. You suckers have made the choice that middle class and your bracket pay for AHC instead of taxing the greedy so deal with it you got what you wanted.

I blame you doctors for this mess. You all sold your souls to corporate medicine thinking you would share in the spoils , well they lied to you. You make remarks about our neighbors across the river knocking a 300 million hospital in the head; it's not those hayseeds in Colbert County but your buddies in big business exercising the art of greed.

This position by Boehner is so horrible in so many ways. I have absolutely no respect for anyone who supports this criminal of mind. I just didn't realize the moral degradation and level of hate you conservTbees have for the unfortunate. I cannot express the disgust for nor the desire that you fail in your endeavor in pursuit of your evil.

Old Squirrelly Dawg is so divorced from reality he does not recognize SATIRE! Boehner never said what was in the New Yorker blog.

One thing that some of you on the other side have posted that seems that you think employers divesting themselves of health insurance as a part of compensation is a bad thing.
I have long held the belief that employer supplied health insurance is a factor in making American companies less competitive, especially in the manufacturing sector.

No company anywhere in the civilized world except for here, has the burden of healthcare . TAhat cost is in every car you buy, ever washer or dryer, -- everything that is "made in America".

Something to consider when all our manufacturing jobs seem to be going overseas.

Doctors deserve good pay it takes years or dedication, studying and sacrifice to become a good doctor especially as specialist.  I myself want well trained competent doctors for my health care.

Teyates   Thank you for finally giving an option on something that could help the medical crisis.  All I have heard is no, no, no. This is the first alternative that I have seen in print.

I have told t before that he deserves to be rich. I agree doctors should be paid well but the doctors are not getting the money; corporate medicine is getting it instead. Doctors at one time controlled hospitals; now your neighbor with a business degree decides if you need treated or not. The doctors at one time were all AMA members and were a collective force; now they a fragmented group of pawns at the bidding of hospitals which are not interested in your health but the bottom line of profit to investors..
