bluesmann,

Never ask a child for a history lesson.

1968, drinking age lowered to 18 on account of the draft and fairness to people who were going off to get slaughtered in the Meat Grinder called Vietnam.

Laws repealed because of irresponsible behavior of 18 to 21 year olds. Now, there is a lot of irresponsible behavior amoung 21 to 95 year olds, but they outnumber the little ones.

Vote granted to 18 year olds as a consolation prize for loosing the right to drink.

BETTER QUESTION. Why is it a crime for a parent to buy a teenager a beer? In fact, what possessed the government to take away the responsibility for teaching our children the evils of drink? Or better yet, Who IS YOUR Daddy, the government, or Paw?

Are you calling me a child, EdEKit????
The legal drinking age is determined by the states. I think it was the late 60's that the Federal Gov decided that they would give states a nice chunk of change for road improvements. The stipulation to that would be they would raise the drinking age to 21. Most states complied immediately, others held out. Louisiana was the last to change it, I think the age was 18 up until the 70's or 80's. The right to vote wasn't connected to losing the right to drink.

Tennessee changed its legal drinking age from 18 to 21 in May of 1979, just before I turned 18.

I think joining the military can be a great thing.

Do you want your children going into an Army that ( according to the media) is accepting people of lesser intelligence and homosexuals.

Just a thought of mine. what do you think?
Heck, most ADULTS who get out there and drink and drive are irresponsible, and we expect kids to be?

When the Military takes 18 year olds, they spend a LOT of time TRAINING them on what their job is. Including war.

How do you TRAIN an 18 year old on how to drink responsibly??? Simple, you cannot, nor can you TRAIN any age to do that. People, including 18 year olds, handles alcohol as THEY see fit, hence alcoholics. There isn't any way to tell, no test.

When my ex was in the Navy, legal drinking age was 21, he nor I was 21, but we could go into the base club and HE could drink beer, they stamped his hand for BEER ONLY. I couldn't drink anything, lol.

I s'pose so Brentenman, My oldest Grandaughter is the mother of two. I suspect you are about her age, but then when you get as old as I have managed to get, most people seem awfully young.

I think the U.S. would be better off if, after high school, young men would go through the military experence. I'm not sure about 2 years however. But it would be a culture shock for an 18 year old, with his 38" pants on his 29" waist.LOL to be taught the things you mentioned. But some would wash out real quick.

You may be an old man, but you are far from being a wise man. The answer as to why it is a crime is very simple. You, in your own ignorance, elected the politicians that wrote the law.

Next time you decide to question one of your betters, make sure you look in the mirror first and decide who is actually the better person. You complaining about the problem or the person you is giving you the right to complain.

solve the darn problems, those that are serving time in our prisons for non-violent crimes, make them serve for four years in the military, and afterwards they can be release back into our society.

how about finding a way to extend that to illegal aliens? if they fight for the country then they become a citizen.

mmmmm your probably still felling the effects from your old hippy days or you started popping out babies when your 13.

Never was a hippie, did not get tempted by drugs, was a registered voter before Woodstock, and never popped out a baby, but started four on their way into the world.

I bought the first television set anyone in my family owned.

SO, YEP, I AM AN OLD MAN.

EdEKit, your grammar reflects that of an eight year old. Are you sure you're old enough to post here?

Good soldier, be careful as you enter these deep and murky waters of forum grammar. Your only weapon exists between your ears, and only your prior training will assist you in your combat efforts. Furthermore, should you find yourself engaged with an enemy of greater power, you will certainly be defeated quickly and easily. Should you choose to accept this mission, I wish you well. Carry on.
