I use to live in Florence up until 2 years ago.
I was asking an old friend that still lives there about Bunyans. He said Bunyans on College St. closed down. I was wondering if his information is correct. Thanks

Bunyans is the one behind ECM? It is still open, or it was a couple of weeks ago.
They were going strong last Thursday. BBQ tasted better than ever
They are probably thinking of Hollywood's. It shut down a couple of years ago.
Bunyan's is good but is no better than a whole bunch of other local BBQ joints. we are blessed with good BBQ here, and one reason is that the locals here know what is good BBQ and what is not. If a place oopens up here and does not meet the standard, they are GONE in a short time!
Bunyan's is still open. I love their hot slaw! Southern, Dick Howell's, and Rick's BBQ are all pretty good. I just like Bunyan's slaw better.

The Hollywood Inn did close and Smack II opened some time thereafter. The owners did a fantastic job of cleaning up the building and opened to what looked like a large crowd.
The problem I had was their hours. Employees at Bunyon's told me they opened late and closed early. I would guess they were there for about six months. I was at Bunyon's about two weeks ago, and the Hollywood/Smack building is still vacant.
I haven't eaten at Bunyan's BBQ in far too long. Bunyan's did always have my favorite slaw, but a few years ago I developed a preference for vinegar/sugar slaw. Taste buds can be so finicky.
BUNYAN'S is open and it is great.
Could be that when the person said they closed they were thinking about the 2nd location that used to be across from Georges, in Sheffield, that did close. (Just a thought)

Your friend could be thinking about the branch they put in Sheffield . I believe it did shut down about a couple of years ago.
FYI...Bunyans is the best bar-b-que is the best in Florence. Hands down, no questions.

Give Singletons a try,Old Smokey Boys,Brooks, or Southern
I like Bunyans but all those can hang with Bunyans imo

I like Bunyans but none of those can hang with Arbys imo
Every time I come home from Ohio or my parents come up for a visit, we have Bunyan's. Good stuff!
yes, the hotdogs with slaw are to die for. The only one that closed is the one near my house in sheffield. Closed for "renovations" like 10 years ago. lol
