With all the crises about which our legislature should be concerned, why is the "Dean of the Senate" wasting time on what he essentially calls a worthless bill?

Denton said he will introduce a bill to thwart musical groups that fraudulently perform as bands made famous in the '50s, such as The Platters and The Drifters.

"It's a nothing bill, but we need to have it passed," Denton said.
Depends on if the bands claim to be the originals.
The way I understand it, is that whoever owns the rights to the name of the band or group can use it.

There are many bands/groups out there where only one original member is present yet he/she owns the rights to the name and continues to use it - legally. I don't think Mr. Denton can put legislation in place that will take away a person's rights to a name that they legally own.
