Did you hear about the church that has been forbidden by the NFL to have a Super Bowl party and show the game on a big screen TV?

But then i do not believe in having make-up sales parties ,yard sales, etc at churches either. its not a market place. It certainly is not a sports arena!

NFL stands for NO FUN LEAGUE. Are they going to have fun nazis visit everyone's church and home to make sure no one is breaking any of their laws. This is so ridiculous. If they can catch churches and peole breaking these laws we need to hire the NFL to seek out all of the illegal immigrants in this country.

John Lennon of the beatles said more people go to see the beatles than go to church, he was making a point! The media turn it around on him to say Lennon was saying the beatles was more popular than Jesus.Lennon told it like it was and they did not like it.this church should be soul saving not doing football.there is place and time for all things turn, turn, turn.

Smurph and PBA, are you two serious? Almost every church in the Shoals area has either a gym or a recreational center attached to it. I've played basketball at several of these gyms at the churches. What in the world is wrong with sitting down with family and parishoners and enjoying the Super Bowl. The point of the church is to be a place for a group of people to worship and gather and become a small community, so to speak. They are not gambling or drinking.

The church has become a thing about money,it is sad that the only way we can get people to worship GOD is to offer them something to come to church. hey we got a gym. do we go to church to play ball or worship? church time is GOD'S time!! If you took away all this stuff churches offer today to get you there, then you would not have many in church, that is sad. people seem more into play at church then worship.

Who cares how you get people in church to share the Gospel with them. If someone comes to church just to play basketball and ends up getting saved, have you done something wrong?

Your answer astounds me, since when is going to church to meet with friends through various activities such a bad thing.
I think you would argue with yourself if this forum wasn't here. Lucky for you, I think people would gladly get in line to debate your opinions.
Just a quick question, would Tom Cruise happen to be your leader?

Who said they were making a profit? There are plenty of bars that will be profiting from showing the game.

Looks like the church would just rent out about three 55 inch televisions and place them around the crowd. That way they could still have the party and be in the right.

ONLY if they did not charge admission, and only if in the normal course of business they served food and drinks and charged for the vittles.

Here's the quote from the church's web site:
Fall Creek Baptist Church Family...
We regret to inform you that we have had to cancel our bash to view the Colts game this Sunday in a family friendly environment due to the fact that the NFL believes we would be in violation of the Copyright Act, because we had planned to show the game on a screen bigger than a 55 inch diagonal. We have appealed to their legal counsel and exhausted all options without success. We have been informed that the only exceptions to view the game are given to sports bars and restaurants. While we have argued that we only intend to provide a family oriented environment that will make no profit from the showing, the NFL claims that our event cannot proceed by law. Therefore, we have no choice but to challenge this in court or cancel the event. We choose to cancel the event. We deeply regret that we have been prohibited by the NFL from providing a family friendly environment for celebrating the Colts great season.

There was nothing mentioned about the church profiting from the game, just bringing money to buy snacks. The other main issue was the size of the screen. Every year millions of people gather in front of big screens larger than 55" and place side bets on the game and the NFL goes after a church.
That is about as pathetic as telling a one-legged man in a race that he took off before the gun went off. What a joke!

You can in most churches, count on one hand how many christians you have in each church. the bible says as much, They will be more people in hell then heaven. Thats not good. If we had as many christians that claimed to be, then the world would be more at peace.

In other words, only if the meet the criterion of the NFL...who OWN THE RIGHTS TO THE GAME.
I am open to provide more reasons to oppose the NFL monopoly on professional football, as approved by federal legislation. But, if the monopoly hold the NFL has is broken, you might just get to see some REAL football, say at the college level.
