Do you attend church? I'm just curious.

Just for an occasional funeral.
So people are dying to get you in church. What gets me there is the
spaghetti suppers
I was serious in my question. It appears no one on this forum attends church. I'm surprised at the number of people that refer to themselves as a Christian but don't attend church.
I fail to see how someone "attends church" as you put it since the Church is the people not a building as your ignorance insists. Maybe no one sees a religious gathering on their part as any of your business semi. You seem to think you are the "church" police. You are bill dead out
Yes, Semi I do when my crazy schedule permits. I have no set work days always a different schedule every month so it is hit and miss.

My husband worked swing shift for many years before retiring so there were a lot of Sundays he missed church due to work. I'm sorry if I offended you or anyone with my question.
I was just surprised that no one said yay or nay.
Mathew 18:20
Yes.

No, I think organized religion is the root of many evils. I get many spiritual rewards from within and from nature.
No I do not attend any church
It's been a while, but I do have a Statler Brothers album.
Don't see any reason to subject myself to all the bad things that happen in churches, marriages, funerals, etc.

So when Jesus said, I'm going to build my church, he meant for everyone
to just gather round, stand or sit in the grass if you want, I hope everybody
has their w2 forms, OK let's sing something and then hit the KFC.
Those ignorant Jews had nice stone temples, I don't remember God, Jesus,
Alex Campbell or Martin Luther saying to not build churches.
Where do you get that..??
Yes I attend church. The people are the church and the building is just a place for Christians to have to meet. The early church met a lot of times in someone's home. The Church is important because the Bible tells us Jesus gave his blood for it.

Not at all easy question and answer!

I don't get the joke. I was truly serious in my question & had a reason for asking.

There's no joke, I said I haven't been in a while but I listen to gospel music
at times. You aren't prone to accept answers in the past. Your question
doesn't offend anyone, it's just a simple yes or no answer, nothing very deep.
Did you get your reason for asking, "Do you attend church? I'm just curious"
Some people said yes, some said no.
Hey Semi,
No joke here either. You were curious, then serious. At first I based on your second post clarified what I was most confused about. Of course atheist would not be attended church. So some Christian men responded, and as soon as we did, atheist responded which was a "duh" moment for me. Was it for you as well.
Bottom line is, now that representatives of attending/not attending, believers and non-believers have responded who you have been familiar with over the years ...
But gbrt nor Best responded.
What is your takeaway?
Thanks,
Bud
Bud, I didn't respond because I think it's pretty much a given I don't go to church. I can't remember the last funeral I went to, or wedding I attended, that was held in a church. If there was some special ceremony and I was close to the people involved I'd go. I'm not afraid of a church, it's just a building.
'Morning Best.
Yes, that was pretty much my point. I think asking Christians was Semi's point as well, so some of the "no" answers surprised me. Who'd a thunk it?
I went for a lot of years after I realized I didn't believe anymore. Some atheists still go because they don't want to 'start a fight or hear the fussing' as they say, if they don't go. One old guy says his wife and family knows **** well he doesn't believe any of it, but HE knows **** well he better keep it to himself and go to church with her!
Every time I go outside I am in my church. Yesterday 3 of us floated/kayaked a portion of Blue Water creek. It was heaven, so beautiful. If there is a god then yesterday I was next to him.
But I am assuming you are referring to an actual building with an established religion so the answer would be "no" although I occasionally go when I am in my hometown.
knowing semi as i do i submit her reason for asking was to get folks to admit to attending religious assemblages as reason to exercise her position as forum biddy. She wants pity not admonition.
i myself attend weekly a religious assemblage as a liberal Democrat and make no apologies to anyone for it. I regularly attend three different assemblages some conservative and some liberal and do not allow to any of them how they, in my opinion, ought to think, believe or behave strained through a growing number of clerical sieves that produce a myriad of claims as to the proper outcome of day to day living.
i've never been one to practice force of belief on anyone and if there is everlasting punishment for planned ignorance, i'm comfortable with the likelihood of any number of you being in the a realm.
i understand that the criticism on here of me is due to my intellectual superiority.
pup, contendah and jank receive much criticism for the same reason. [to name a small wad] ......and i'm sure there are others i would include......but for the most part my critics are just AL.Red Necks who are past victims of and recovering drug users.

Good morning, Bud! I was both curious & serious. I mentioned serious after the fact because a couple of the response's were making jokes. Some people find Religion/God/Bible something to joke about, but I don't. I would love to know the truth for a fact so I guess to me, it's nothing to joke about. What is a joke is the people that go to church for no other reason but to be seen & for their social standing in the community.
I wasn't expecting an answer from Jenn because I know where she stands. I agree with her in that some Atheist still attend church because they don't want the trouble of rocking the boat.
I'm not surprised that gbrk didn't answer. He's not on the forum a lot so I didn't expect an answer from him either.

Yes, I do, but not near as often as we did when the kids were growing up. We left the crazy fundamentalist Baptist church here in MS (fir a number of reasons, but the last straw was when they publicly chastised me for skipping church one Sunday to attend my family reunion in Huntsville) and joined a Methodist church who dosen't care) .
However, when my time comes my funeral will be preached by an Episcopal Bishop (we agreed that would be the case only if he outlives me - he's 4 years younger)

I probably know the church you're speaking of. It happened there to a friend of mine. She was chastised for missing church because she was at the hospital with her sick Mother. She found another church too.

we might have know you would be familiar with a nut place of religion. i bet you rolled in the floor there. lol
The last time I was in a church was for a funeral. Before that was for a wedding. 14 years apart.

PC,
Your views of paddling a creek mirror the Christian views I have had since from the first time I poled a pirogue to the cypress swamps, canoed river flat-waters, and kayaked the Chattooga white waters. It's absolutely heaven.
The first one to point this out to me was a ordained Methodist minister who was one of y fishing buddies. As we'd float between giant cypress trees, the water as a black, glass mirror reflecting the tall cypress, he would say that churches are memorials build by man to honor God. And where we were was the Church God created for we mortals. He had God on his side for sure, but I caught just as many fish.
Not a day as I walk or canoe around the farm that I'm not reminded of his words. And God's works.
I am blessed.
There have be times that those with me have felt inclined to offer a prayer of thanks. And at that in that moment, at that time, it was our Church. Felt the same way many time during my time in law enforcement and the military when attending a "regular" church was out of the option. Our solution was to build your own. Non-denominational to be sure ... more like Heinz 57.
You know, Semi, I was cautious about your topic a first, but I feel better with ever post I read, pro or con.
Thanks.

Just my nature about religion.
No biggie.
I'm going to share why I asked if any of you attended church.
There are some folks that believe going to church is a must to get to Heaven. Others don't believe church to be so important, that a building isn't going to help get you there. I figure those of you that attend church believe it's a must, a part of Christianity that you should take part in.
I got to the point that I dreaded seeing Sunday come. I hated going to church. I was easily distracted, looking around at the people that I knew were there for social standing only. Seeing the woman or man that I knew were having affairs, those that had been in a club the night before getting rip roaring drunk & there they were in church with a terrible hangover, asleep or with this expression on their face that told you they hated being there.
I sometimes look at a sun set, the stars on a very dark night, a rainbow, or the cry of a newborn baby & I wonder. I know all this doesn't come from a "Big Bang" or a gathering of cells but I'm not sure of the "Man from Heaven" theory either.
I don't think attending church will get a person to Heaven, & it's hard to believe that not going will keep you out. I prefer to think it's what's inside your heart that matters.
I would like to think it's how Bud put it. That where they were was the Church God created for mortals.
May sound corny but that's how I feel.
clap clap clap lol ill bet bestun enjoyed that bill sermon.
semi do you ever gaze into the eyes of two photons and wonder how-the-hell them three quarks got inside draggin along the strong nuclear force to give mass to a couple of thankless baryons? huh?
That's why god can't feed starving children, laying in agony with oozing sores and flies blowing their bodies, or why he can't keep them from being pulled out of the womb in pieces, or stabbed in the head at birth, or keep them from being killed in the womb in some other horrible fashion, or stop them being beheaded by muslims, or taken for child brides, or stop any of the other horrors visited on them and others that are tortured, starved, killed. He has to make purty cricks for the lucky ones to float on.
protons not photons. my bad semi
The "building" is not the church--something any educated person should know.
The Bible says not to forsake the assembly; therefore, attendance is required to be pleasing to God.
Then why do educated people also refer to the building as a church? There is the Assembly of God. Can you name another that has cross meaning?
I do get your point, KC, hence my misuse of Mathew 18:20. An assembly.
If say the Methodist church, I can mean the Methodist assembly or I can mean the Methodist Church at a particular location. I'm pretty sure my preacher got it right. The works of God and the works of man - physical and spiritual. All inclusive. The way it ought to be. IMHO.
BTW, I'll bet Semi, in a New York second, can quote scripture faster and more accurate than I but when it comes to spiritual versus physical structures, when Christ said to Peter in Mathew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it., was he talking about
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Peter's_Basilica
Yet that's what we did.
My steeple is higher than yours. And that makes the assembly better, how?
As if God cares.
I apologize to KC any anyone else if this rant seems directed at KC. It's not. It's the topic.
