How much do you think we spend subsidizing rich white men sense of adventure? At some point doesn't it get absurd to have to fund rescue teams, buy helicopters, and risk lives so that these guys can climb not only mountains but Volcanoes to boot?

Just a though.

I guess it's also absurd for our civil servants along with our tax dollars to be sent to Haiti to dig out and rescue people of color.

The number of those rescued doing the extreme activities you mentioned pales in comparison to the large number of people we have helped or rescued in Haiti.

I'm sure if you and some of your other black buddies fell into a volcano, they'd come looking for you too.

I'm not saying we shouldn't save people but I think we should charge them or something and make them carry insurance for some activities to pay for it.

In this case the deceased family should have to pay say 35,000 to fetch this man's body out of a 1,5000 foot crater in a volcano.
I agree that the families should be billed for reasonable rescue/recovery fees when the person put themselves in "harm's way" to start with.
Make em buy permits to climb.

Have an underwriter lined up to evaluate each applicant and issue a policy based upon his/her outdoor experience and overall survivability vs probability of doing somthing stupid.

This policy could pay state or federal agencies in the event of a rescue.

Climbers are covered while collectively taking care of the expense of the stupid ones.

Just charge the sh!t out of em to do it and it will eliminate some of the riffraff and some of those who aren't serious enough about it to have the proper equipment and/or knowledge to survive such an adventure.

Reasonable point. It should come out of his estate.

Now that I actually agree with.
