The Colbert County District Judge's race seems to be really heating up. I have heard that some of the candidates are against the death penalty. I would like for each candidate to post their views on the death penalty. I want to hear from each candidate directly - not from their supporters who seem to want to bash one another on this forum.

So....how they going to know what you want if they don't ever waste their time in the TD forum?

Maybe a phone call would get better results.

I certainly like to know the candidates' positions on various issues, but that one is not pertinent. Unless they are running for CIRCUIT judge, they will never sentence a person to death or life without. As lawguy pointed out, they do no handle felony cases.

I'd say most of the candidates are defense attorneys who have lobbied against it in the past. It doesn't pertain to this election unless you think they're going to try to move up? Not too much difference in salary, is there?

Now, why doesn't someone discuss the wonderful candidates in Lauderdale where I'll be voting?
Bubbaluck, you sound like you must be a lawyer. I did not realize that district court judges did not sentence criminals in felony cases. However, I still would like to know where each candidate stands on the death penalty because, as you say, felony cases often start in district court. What is the harm in each candidate telling the voters their beliefs? Whether they believe that life in prison or the death penalty is a more appropriate sentence gives the voters in insight into the candidates.
