There is lots of blithering nonsense being aimed at Common Core and a dearth of truly thoughtful and analytical comment.  While I do not agree with all that is stated in the link below, I believe it sets a standard of quality that far surpasses the uninformed ranting often originating with people who know very little about Common Core and who just robotically oppose it because they wrongly characterize it as a federal initiative--which it is NOT!  The weakness of many education initiatives are the common practices of "teaching to the test" and elevating test results to a position of exaggerated supremacy.  This lady says it well:

I yam what I yam and that's all I yam--but it is enough!

The CCSS adds nothing to what we know about how to teach reading. It adds nothing to how we teach arithmetic and mathematics. It adds nothing to how we teach history, geography, and the “social studies.” In short, it is a fraud to get the American taxpayer to shell out big bucks for something that we already know how to do.  Yes, science has greatly expanded, but it also expanded from 1850 to 1950 and didn’t require a different methodology from the scientific method developed by the great scientists of the past. We may have better equipment which students of science must learn to operate, but the scientific method has not changed.

As I've stated before, the math is not well done -- the new math rehashed -- making it more confusing. Bush's No Child Left Behind was panned because of too much teach to the test. CC does it on steroids.  Finally, the feds requirement of extremely detailed data. I have no problem with aggregate data by ethnicity, age, gender, school etc.  However, the feds demand a by student data base -- names and all. Sorry, enough spying upon us -- no dossiers of the citizenry, nor Inspector Javerts.

From what I gather from explanations on the internet , common core math teaches nothing as to how number systems work. From the examples I have seen, there is no way to correlate how to add or do math in different number systems, like octal, or binary , or hexadecimal. It is a severe disservice to kids to not explain how numbers work, and as far as I can tell, common core does nothing about that.

There lies the question, why are the communist pushing CC so hard when

it only cripples the students..??

Exactly, its dumbed down math theory taught in college -- except for mathematicians and a few others, none will have need of it.  Takes a fairly simple subject taught for thousands of years and unnecessarily complicates it.

We allow this and problems like this to rank America 314th in overall

education. Liberals get away with kind of crap all the time so as not to hurt

anyone's feelings. We are now taught to keep education, military and

religion separated from God. I don't know which God is which anymore.

I don't know what country runs our schools or control's our military.

The giveaway in the last six years has been catastrophic.

That's the scary part, seeing how fast they moved and how much they've destroyed in such a few years. That's why I worry if we can survive them two more years, or if their claws and teeth will be in too deep.
