Another example of Bowdens' high character recruits from D1...Vinson from TN...yeah come on down to UNA...you can hide out on cypress mill road....haha..and yeah before ya'll go bashing me...i know he wasn't enrolled yet at UNA...but Coach Bowden had him waiting in the wings....don't you think TB encouraged him to move on down...don't you think TB may have done a little investigating on this player...Lord knows this is the kinda players UNA needs to transfer in here....only thing is I don't sleep as well as I used to now that TB is bringing in this quality of human beings...

I don't think it's just Terry Bowden, but rather the environment of college football and basketball in general. For every good hardworking kid you have a thug. I know that people make mistakes and I am all for second chances but bringing a kid in who's being tried for murder is flat out wrong. I guess Terry gets it honestly from from his daddy. I am disappointed in the athletic program for the fact that this kid was even looked at by UNA as a possible student-athlete.

For the record, I am a UNA athlete from a few years back so I am not trashing all athletes or coaches. I am just glad that my coach didn't take on thugs and troublemakers for immediate results.
I just duplicated this thread in the sports section. Of course, I didn't think to look in the "news" section first.

My thoughts are how about a background check first. Surely something like being a murder suspect would've surfaced. Also, being dismissed before the bowl game (i.e., while Kiffin was still there) should say something. If Kiffin thought he was bad enough to boot, he must've been horrible.

BTW, here's the link: MASH HERE
My thoughs or 2 cents, Yes not sure how many , sound like maybe as many as 20 or more came in from other schools for many reasons in why they left the schools they was at . I am sure most are ok Kids and that is what they are Kids! My quesstion from early on, some just Jumped up one day and next day or so here. Now most young kids playing ball don't have a job. but able allmost over nite moved here . Who is paying for these moves. Yes some familys maybe can afford to pay their way untell they get on a Scholarship ! Very costly for any move, appartments, food . I wondered about this before this happened .

Do you think TB kn ew this kid was a murder suspect when he was "looked at?"

Were there problems with last years group?

I know there was at least one "incident" where a transfer was arrested for shoplifting. He had the nerve to tell the store manager that he (the store manager) was ruining his (the player's) career.

I never saw any new coverage of this arrest. I wonder how many other "unreported" incidents there were...
Great role models we have coming in........ Roll Eyes Hope they realize that even if he didn't become a player at UNA, this THUG wouldn't have been in the neighborhood had they not brought him here. Great, just what we need an alleged murderer in the neighborhood. As if we don't have enough thiefs and rapists as it is both on the field and off. Please think before you recruit. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about Purple Reign, but not like this.

Plus I'm sure UNA's attendance would go up if we start going 3-8. Roll Eyes

Losing records would certainly hurt attendance, but UNA has been VERY, VERY successful for years - without encouraging 20+ outcast players a year to enroll from other schools.

They weren't all outcast. There were a variety of reasons they chose UNA. That's a GOOD thing.
