I just noticed this from good ole lefty, time magazine:

D.C. Snowstorm: How Global Warming Makes Blizzards Worse

"Brace yourselves now - this may be a case of politicians twisting the facts. There is some evidence that climate change could in fact make such massive snowstorms more common, even as the world continues to warm."

Let's face it. We're doomed! Even with global warming we are going to freeze. WITHOUT warming the globe, we will freeze! We may as well hang it up people. Our goose is cooked.... froze.... whatever. Frowner
You scoffers are posting on the wrong forum. Go to the "Know-nothing Idiots" forum with your silly, childish, unlearned drivel about a subject you have no real knowledge of. For years, the knowledgeable students of the phenomenon have predicted strong extremes of weather accompanying the overall warming of the temperature of the planet. It is YOU, not they, who are playing little silly word games and trying--but failing--to be cute.

Of soot, ice, and snow:

Are you just stupid or stupid on purpose? Wink
I think he works really hard at it. No one can be as arrogant and stupid without trying.
Which is it BterNU, are we gonna burn up or freeze to death? much like the recent alarmists who were saying that the ozone hole which now appears to be closing is now a "bad" thing....do I need to send more money for research into the subject?
If we have to start eating Soylent Green, does that make you "brain food"????

No. Not either of the above.

Now, to help you understand better just who I am, I have graciously taken the time to set forth below a brief description of myself. Upon consideration of this information, I anticipate that you will in the future be more gracious and respectful in your responses to the pearls of wisdom that I post.

I am 7 feet tall, weigh 295 pounds (predominently lean muscle;only 2% body fat), bench-press 700 pounds 25 repetitions, play three-dimensional chess in my head; can quote in elegiacs all the crimes of Heliogabalus; and reserve a couple of hours each month for leaping tall buildings at a single bound.

So you're a liar too. Just kidding. No offense. Smiler

Just like global warming, that's clearly BS.
I would say Mother Nature is ticked off!!!

"I have never in my lifetime seen or heard anything quite like this," said D.C. Fire Chief Dennis L. Rubin, who was born and raised in the District.

The previous records for snowiest winters were 62.5 inches in Baltimore in 1995-96, and 54.4 inches in Washington in 1898-99. As of Wednesday afternoon, Baltimore had 72.3 inches so far this winter and Reagan had 54.9.

In Ramsey, N.J., as of 5 p.m. ET, 14 inches had fallen during the latest storm.
It's the volume of ice that tells the story.

Multiyear Arctic ice is effectively gone

Vanishing Arctic ice shows no sign of returning
Friday, 2 Oct 2009 06:45pm EDT By David Ljunggren
OTTAWA (Reuters) - The multiyear ice covering the Arctic Ocean has effectively vanished, a startling development that will make it easier to open up polar shipping routes, an Arctic expert said on Thursday.

Vast sheets of impenetrable multiyear ice, which can reach up to 80 meters (260 feet) thick, have for centuries blocked the path of ships seeking a quick short cut through the fabled Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific. They also ruled out the idea of sailing across the top of the world.

But David Barber, Canada's Research Chair in Arctic System Science at the University of Manitoba, said the ice was melting at an extraordinarily fast rate.

"We are almost out of multiyear sea ice in the northern hemisphere," he said in a presentation in Parliament. The little that remains is jammed up against Canada's Arctic archipelago, far from potential shipping routes.

Scientists link higher Arctic temperatures and melting sea ice to the greenhouse gas emissions blamed for global warming.

Barber spoke shortly after returning from an expedition that sought -- and largely failed to find -- a huge multiyear ice pack that should have been in the Beaufort Sea off the Canadian coastal town of Tuktoyaktuk.

Instead, his ice breaker found hundreds of miles of what he called "rotten ice" -- 50-cm (20-inch) thin layers of fresh ice covering small chunks of older ice.

"I've never seen anything like this in my 30 years of working in the high Arctic ... it was very dramatic," he said.

"From a practical perspective, if you want to ship across the pole, you're concerned about multiyear sea ice. You're not concerned about this rotten stuff we were doing 13 knots through. It's easy to navigate through."

Scientists have fretted for decades about the pace at which the Arctic ice sheets are shrinking. U.S. data shows the 2009 ice cover was the third-lowest on record, after 2007 and 2008.

An increasing number of experts feel the North Pole will be ice free in summer by 2030 at the latest, for the first time in a million years.

"I would argue that, from a practical perspective, we almost have a seasonally ice-free Arctic now, because multiyear sea ice is the barrier to the use and development of the Arctic," said Barber.

Fresh first-year ice always forms in the Arctic in the winter, when temperatures plunge far below freezing and the North Pole is not exposed to the sun.

Shipping companies are already looking to benefit from warming waters. This year two German cargo ships successfully navigated from South Korea along Russia's northern Siberia coast without the help of icebreakers.

The Arctic is warming up three times more quickly than the rest of the Earth, in part because of the reflectivity, or the albedo feedback effect, of ice. Continued...

Sir, we have no wish for a detailed description of your current "cell mate". Please, just your info.
Albore said global warming would cause numerous destructive hurricanes, which never appeared. Robert F. Kennedy Jr said global warming caused the lack os snow in DC -- oops!

In the UK, even the left is getting the picture. The Guardian carried a number of articles about the faked statistics from East Anglia U and is demanding an investigation and prosecution. Global warming is now junk science, aka Lysenkoism. To its true believers, its a religion.

liberal idiots will defend ANYTHING that has to do with their fanatical and wrong-headed beliefs. Here's why. We'll all be dead and gone before everyone realizes what a sick, deranged and wrong group of people they were.
Different take on that ice.

Some researchers, however, believe that recent Arctic warming is only a recurring peak in a long-term Arctic climate cycle. A group of Alaskan researchers recently published their assessment of Russian long-term observations of air temperature from coastal stations, and sea-ice extent and fast-ice thickness from Arctic seas. They found a great deal of variability in Arctic temperatures, with cyclic fluctuations on a timescale of 60 to 80 years. A climate cycle of this length might mean that the Arctic will cool again soon, rather than continue warming.

Given these findings and the world’s interest in global climate change, long-term observations are essential to understanding Arctic climate change. “Climatologists generally need a 30-year mean (or average) to be able to talk about trends in climate variability. With the availability of data from satellites that have been in orbit for 24 years, scientists now have close to that 30-year standard, which is unique,” said Steffen.

“The real question is, is this recent trend unusual?” said Serreze. Both teams will rely on the orbiting “eyes” of satellites to observe Arctic ice conditions over the next few years as they attempt to determine whether these changes are part of a long-term climate cycle or whether the Arctic is experiencing an ongoing warming trend.

One good thing about being an ex-DOD employee, is knowing who to borrow all sorts of neat software from. I used a special program to hunt down betern nuttin's URL and activate the camera on his computer. Now, for the first time, here is the real betern nuttin:

Are those the knowledgeable students that changed the data to suit their interests. Or is the ones that eliminated most of the thermometers in the coldest climates and then discovered that the average temps were rising. They are brilliant.
