It appears that the exceeding vast majority of flags were American flags.
And, interestingly enough, none of them appeared to be desecrated, nor in the act of desecration! That's quite contrary to the remark "see what these people are doing, desecrating our flag (see pics)".
I just wonder if those folks had been Russian, Venezuelan or Chinese and spoke their native tongue if we would be reading the same type remarks.
Just because folks speak Spanish doesn't make them a criminal. Neither does any fact that they may have been of Hispanic origin make them criminal.
Our childhood next-door neighbors were Hispanic. In fact, they were from Cuba. They left before Castro took over. He was an architect, and she a professor. They now live in Miami. And, a well-respected former professor of mine is of Hispanic origin. Her parents also emigrated from Cuba, similarly to our childhood neighbors. And, she speaks excellent Spanish, and was teaching her little daughter! It's her heritage, just like cornbread and collard greens with sweet iced tea is our Southern heritage. Oh, by the way... her husband is Anglo.
However, since you wrote that the assembled were "speaking Habla Espanol during speeches, fliers en Espanol," and that there was "Socialist left-wing rhetoric," what would be interesting to know is how fluent you are in Spanish. Your remarks intimate you clearly understood them.
And since you intimated you were also afraid, vis a vis your comment that "With my family with me, and outnumbered 200,000 to 1, I DON'T think I was about to ask these folks what or where they were from," the only thing we know is that you were there and heard some language that you apparently didn't understand, and are now extrapolating without actually knowing the facts.
Regarding voter registration, can't Hispanics vote? Are Hispanics now the 21st century's equivalent of the 19th century Negro? Are Hispanics a second-class person, with little or no constitutional rights... two-thirds of a person, neither entitled to marry, own property and neither entitled to vote if they are citizens?
Alabama law states that in order for someone to be eligible to register to vote they must meet the following qualifications:
* Be a United States Citizen
* Reside in Alabama
* Be at least 18 years old
* Have not been convicted of a felony (or have rights restored)
* Have not been legally declared "mentally incompetent" by a court
And the Code of Alabama, 1975 annotated reads in part about the qualifications of voters that: Section 17-4-122
Examination and oath of applicants to register; applications not public records; political parties may obtain voter registration information.
The board of registrars shall have power to examine, under oath or affirmation, all applicants for registration, and to take testimony touching the qualifications of such applicants, but no applicant shall be required to answer any question, written or oral, not related to his qualifications to register.
Armchair quarterbacking?
Nope, none at all.
Plain observation... at least as good as (if not better than) yours.
Now before anyone gets any mistaken idea, my original question was " How do you know that every person you mentioned seeing was an illegal alien?"
