"At a conference marking the 40th anniversary of the Legal Services Corporation, Biden recalled anecdotes from his son's experience serving in Iraq and meeting members of the military who were in need of legal help because of problems back at home.

"That's one of the things that he finds was most in need when he was over there in Iraq for a year," Biden said, "that people would come to him and talk about what was happening to them at home in terms of foreclosures, in terms of bad loans that were being...I mean these Shylocks who took advantage of, um, these women and men while overseas."

ADL National Director Abraham Foxman issued a mild reprimand later Tuesday.

"When someone as friendly to the Jewish community and open and tolerant an individual as is Vice President Joe Biden, uses the term 'Shylocked' to describe unscrupulous moneylenders dealing with service men and women, we see once again how deeply embedded this stereotype about Jews is in society," Foxman said in a statement, first reported by Yahoo News."

Poor old Joe, I doubt the man is truly an anti-Semite.  Most likely, its either age, the hair plugs were inserted too deep, or his inherent ignorance.stupidity.

Must be embarrassing to the Dems, they elected as VP someone dumber than the character on SNL that played another VP candidate.

____

It is a bit of a stretch to attribute anti-Semitism to the use of the term "Shylock" or "Shylocking".  The term indeed described a Jewish character in a Shakespeare play, but has come to mean, generally, anyone who, irrespective of ethnicity, displays the characteristics of a hard-hearted money lender.

Foxman is over-reacting.

But never mind, you Biden critics--any excuse will do when you seek to denigrate that good man.

How cute, Condie's excuse is, "everyone does it."  Sorry, no.  The ADL recognized  and identified the term for what it was.  Condie's excuse resembles those who used the N-word thru the Sixties -- "everyone uses it."  In my home, it would result on mouth washed out with soap and a spanking.  Always glad I asked my dad about the word in private when I was about five.

It is remarkably easy to push the ADL's very sensitive buttons.  Their take on the term is not logically  to be regarded as how the larger society views it.

One must remember that  in the Political Correctness of today, that it doesn't matter what you think you said was ok it is how the person you are directing the comments takes it. So there is no excuse for saying ANYTHING that can offend anyone. If your feelings get hurt yell "racist", "anti-Semite" "insensitive *******" or what ever else you can think of to try and make the other person bow down to correctness and let you get your way
