I had the same thing happen to my dog, except she got into a hole along the river bank...I called the Muscle Shoals Fire Department for help...the Chief refused to send any help and stated, they don't rescue animals...

Finally got my dog out with help of Colbert County Animal Control officers and other neighbors who helped me dig...Since that time, I have no respect at all of their Chief or his operating polices...to me a life is a life...that animal is just as important to that person calling as a child is to someone else...the fire station is less than 1 mile from my house....

I understand that you love your dog. I have a lab that I love. However, I'd never say that a dog's life is as important as a person's...

You obviously haven't met some of the same people that I have had the misfortune to know.

Jesus died for all of those people.

No criticism here, but I feel that you could benefit from some true enlightening and a small dose of reality.

I have a friend who called the police because she had caught a mouse in a trap and could not bring herself to empty the trap. This was in a small SEC college town. They sent someone over to empty the trap for her. So they probably certainly would have dug a dog out of a hole.

I guess it does depend on a lot of things, like local policy. I do think we have to be careful about equating animals with humans, but I don't see anything wrong with rescue workers helping someone save their pet. I would expect them to leave that scene and go to help a person, though.

I think it depends on the person and the circumstance. For instance, if I caught a person abusing my dog, I'd definitely be on team dog.

I think it is wonderful that these volunteer rescue workers saved this dog's life. What a great story!

"I have found a long time ago, just because it walks on two legs, and talks does not mean its a life to be favored over another life..

In some cases, you should spare the animal and shoot the two legged creature..."

Amen to that, Trader!
