Any news on when and where Publix is coming? I so need to quit driving so far to shop.

I am sure it's a coming. I hope so and hope to goodness Wal-Mart goes under. Not that employees lose thier jobs but home office staff is worse than ever.
Hoping Wal-Mart will go under is wasted hope.
I do kinda hate Walmart but they do carry some of the things I use. Carrot juice, organic spring mix, ECO's natural laundry detergent, organic potatoes, coconut milk, and organic juice. But they quit carrying soy ice cream. They are just not dependable. Publix has buy one get one specials each week, that save you a lot of money.

ivy,
I have no vested interest in the place, but the other day I stopped in to look around at the new Osa's Garden store on 72 east of town. They had several of the soy based products, and might have that ice cream you are looking for. Give them a call.

Yes, they discontinued both soy-based ice cream and Lactaid, a variety that is for lactose-intolerant persons, such as my wife. Nor can you find soy-based "cheese" products at the local Walmart any more. This is typical of Walmart's practice of stocking only fast-turnover, high-volume products, i.e. the ones that absolutely maximize profit. Publix carries a variety of these kinds of products and when we are going out of town, we take an ice chest and buy up several cartons of Lactaid at Publix and hustle home before it starts to soften and melt. It is an inconvenient arrangement and we will be glad to see Publix in Florence where the needs of all customers are thoughtfully taken into account.
If Osa's doesn't carry it, they will usually order it for you. I've never been disappointed with the folks in that store.
I'm a great fan of Publix from my Atlanta years, and they hire the best of the best employees. Wages is why their prices have to be relatively high. (Their sales are not that good, either.)
But, let me say something really nice about WalMart grocery: They carry great Mexican food supplies, especially the Panchos Dips (from Memphis.) Publix will never have it.
Bamaman, your shooting for a Grand Slam on that Race Card, you just wait till the Pop-Tart Prince gets up from his Nappy-poo.....
Thought I saw it in an article in Times Daily that Publix would open in October 2012?
Fat Rat: Please don't associate me with race card. In my observations, I'm really thinking about all the rednecks and other people taking advantage of all entitlement programs--race is completely excluded.
Some people don't have any excuse being like they are, and the way they will continue to be.
It's kind'a like Sam Kinison used to scream in his comedy act about all the starving people of Africa--"MOVE TO THE FOOD!" I feel the same way about long term unemployed: "MOVE TO THE JOBS!"
Getting back to this topic: And great food will be available at Publix--beginning 10/12.
Move to the jobs -- that's why I left in 1974.
