Enough Fountains, Thank you!

It would be nice if these people who donate money to the university would designate that it be used to buy more items for Collier library like microtext material for research, copiers that actually work, etc. Instead, they want monuments built to honor themselves like fountains and lion sculptures with their names on them.

I agree up to a point, but it is their money. I imagine at this point if someone wanted to purchase another fountain, etc., the administration would suggest another type of memorial.

I would like to see a hall of portraits--donate 100K and UNA hangs a portrait of the donor's mother or whoever. It's much classier than those memorial bricks or tiles that many institutions use and should garner more funding.
Why donate money to the school just to be used to build a fountain or memorial that replaces valuable parking spaces? I agree, FV, let the money go for needed projects and a fine portrait of the benefactor will hang in a prominent place. Otherwise, if they want to build a monument to themselves, let them build it in their own backyard.

I absolutely agree with you..I believe Helping students for their career is like giving them new life..
With the PAC program's issues, it would be more feasible to have scholarships for students in need than another fountain, a brick or anything else. A scholarship that is open to more students than just the one's that have other means. I always had issues with the Doctor's son who made good grades and was part of every activity possible getting a full scholarship to college. Give it to the single parent's kid who makes decent grades and is more of a help to his mom than a silver spoon child.
