A former Playboy model on Tuesday sued the company that owns the National Enquirer so she could break her silence about an alleged affair she claims she had with President Trump.

Karen McDougal is suing American Media Inc., which paid her $150,000 for her story about the alleged affair and then withheld it from publication, The New York Times reports.

McDougal, whose lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that she was misled by American Media Inc. and her lawyer at the time about the deal.

She also said in the lawsuit that she was warned by the media company after the spoke with The New Yorker last month that "any further disclosures would break Karen's contract" and "cause considerable monetary damages," according to the Times.

McDougal's current lawyer, Peter Stris told the newspaper in an email that American Media Inc. carried out a "multifaceted effort to silence" his client.

“The lawsuit filed today aims to restore her right to her own voice,” he said. “We intend to invalidate the so-called contract that American Media Inc. imposed on Karen so she can move forward with the private life she deserves.”

McDougal told The New Yorker last month that a purported effort to cover up the story by the National Enquirer took her "rights away." The model also said she felt like she could not so much as mention Trump's name after she was paid for her story.

The lawsuit comes after adult film star Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, also filed a lawsuit earlier this month in an effort to void a nondisclosure agreement she says bars her from speaking publicly about her alleged affair with Trump more than a decade ago.

Clifford was paid $130,000 by Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen weeks before the 2016 presidential election. That payment, she says, was intended to buy her silence about the alleged affair.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported in November 2016 that American Media, Inc., paid McDougal $150,000 for her story about the alleged affair with Trump and then never published it.

McDougal and Clifford both claim that they had an affair with Trump in 2006, a year after he married first lady Melania Trump.

McDougal and Clifford have made similar claims about their relationships with the now-president, including interactions at the same Lake Tahoe golf tournament and dates at the same Beverly Hills hotel, among other similarities.

Trump has denied both affairs.

hmmm more money, more money,,, sad that anyone wants to promote prostitution.  was before taking office,, nothing illegal, just more hate.  More deep state corruption.

She's in for the bucks. Careful, Trump sues and keeps those he sues in expensive legal fees.

If, Trump were a Democrat and the alleged affairs were true, he'd be considered almost faithful.

But it sure makes Melania look like a pitiful weak stooge. You know, the same argument conservatives use on Hillary.

I don't see too much difference between the Democrats and Republicans on this. When Bill Clinton was in office the sexual offense that happened took place in the Oval Office, or right off it, and Bill Clinton lied about it.  I have no doubt that Trump did what is alleged he did but that these things were done before he was running for President and not in the White House or during his Presidency.  The act was the exact same thing, a sexual indiscretion while married with a woman, not his wife.  Clinton's happened in office and in the White House to a paid employee where Trump's happened before he was President.  Another vast difference is how the media is treating it.  Did they give 1/10th the coverage that is given to Trump to Clinton?  Did they jump on the bandwagon gleefully seeking impeachment?

Actually, Clinton was put up for impeachment because he was caught lying and not because of the affair.  As for what happens to Trump time will tell but how it affects his future plans to run is what is unknown at this time.  Now contrast both Clinton and Trump with Kennedy.  There is no comparison.  Heck Kennedy had so many affairs going on and with the Secret Services help and the media looking the other way always.  Speculation still is rampant as to whether or not the affair with the Kennedys (Robert also) led to the death (murder) of Marilyn Monroe.

The real question is, and it's not a pretty one (the question that is), does their affairs with these women, immoral as they are, affect any of their abilities to be President and perform their job?  If Clinton's affair with one of his paid employees wasn't enough to warrant impeachment then why would Trump's affair before he was ever elected justification for an impeachment which is what Democrats are salivating for?

They were all wrong!  Kennedy, for the most part, continued to get away with his indiscretions whereas Clinton I believe was allowed to his wayward ways by Hillary.  That or she was the most naive woman alive.  As to how this plays out with Trump and his wife and those who elected him that remains to be seen.

The whole affair (snark) reveals the dichotomy of the left.  The two alleged affairs Trump was involved with happened six or seven years ago and were consensual. JFK had dozens of alleged affairs before and while president.  He was admired by Demmies. LBJ had a couple of nasty affairs.  Teddy Kennedy had a number of affairs, including one where a young woman was killed because of his recklessness.   He even went out on drunken sprees with younger relatives picking up women.  FBR had two mistresses while president -- died in the arms of one down in Georgia.  Then, there's old Bill -- affairs before and during office, including alleged rapes.
