It seems to have become common place for the media, our elected representatives, and other government officials to claim that the President or Congress has this right or that right. WRONG! The President and Congress have no rights. The President and Congress have powers that are ceded to them by the people. The preamble of the Constitution reads,
“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
WE THE PEOPLE are the ultimate authority in the United States of America. We formed the government. We ceded the powers held by the government. Let me say that Barack Obama has rights; Harry Reid has rights; John Boehner has rights; John Roberts has rights. But the President, the Majority Leader of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court have no rights. They have powers. GET IT RIGHT!
