The "gentlemen" in the link below has been arrested for allegedly trafficking in prescripton drugs, including Oxycontin. According to the article, "agents searched Cain's residence and vehicle and found more than 300 Oxycontin pills, which have a street value of $25,000." Wow! That's over $80.00 per pop!

I had some minor outpatient surgery recently and my doctor prescribed Oxycontin. I got the prescription filled--50 tablets--but the pain was relatively minor and I took none of them, since I don't like the side effects of these pain-killers, drowsiness and slowed reaction time. So, I had 50 pills for which I paid about a $5.00 co-payment. I do not believe in keeping un-needed medication around the house, so I have now flushed the Oxycontin down the toilet, all $4,000.00 worth!

Seriously, do people pay $80.00 per pill for this stuff or are the cops exaggerating its street value?

OxyContin (note correct spelling) is a time release drug that contains Oxycodone, an opiate based drug. OxyContin should be prescribed for the relief of moderate to severe pain.

Drug addicts have discovered that they can crush OxyContin and release it's active ingredients from the time capsulation. They then inject or snort the powder.

Yes, it's quite expensive on the streets. I don't know about $80.00 per pill, but I have had people admit to giving $50.00 per pill for their "fix".

A doctor who would prescribe OxyContin for minor outpatient surgery should be investigated. On the face of the statement, it seems quite excessive...like using a sledge hammer to drive a finish nail.
Oxycontin has always been a drug desired by junkies. The pills were melted and injected for years but I heard they changed the formula to make them gel instead. You would be suprised what people will pay for various pills.Dont flush them talk to your phx and dont buy scripts. you dont intend to take.I guess you havn't noticed those popular methedone clinics with a line around the corner and security gaurds. And yes they will pay alot for cheap pills.
Some will rob from their dieing grandma to get them pills, if possible . Many have ODed on them after injecting or chewing them, even tho they have did it many times before , but very the next time could be deadly, more so if mixing them with other pills and or dranking.

A Mrs Hundson from Offord ,Al. area help start a 90 minute Drug Awareness Program "Operation Save Teens" run by The State of Alabama ABC Agent Mike Reece have come to all of the Schools in Lauderdale Co. . after 4 of her sons friends OD and even her only child ,her son ODed on one pill Xmas Eve.
FDA guidelines suggest flushing unused opiates down the toilet. The risk of their misuse outweighs the risk of them leeching into the water table.

Scientists suspect the majority of drug residue found in water tables comes from the drugs that are eliminated from the human body as waste, rather than those intentionally flushed down the toilet.
They ALWAYS exxagerate the street value. Makes for more Fed monies for the ongoing "drug war"...
Federal Money is given for stats...to be specific, it's not giving for the value of dope or the amount of dope, but rather how many individual dope cases are made. That's where the flaw comes in because it can encourage the arrest of addicts just to get the stat instead of the addict getting help and the drug units getting credit for helping the addict. Even though some people just absolutely need to go to jail, jail shouldn't be used as a place to detox for those actually crying for help.
