It worked out well this time and the LEO is touted as a hero for the times, but what if the criminal had taken the LEO's weapon and had used it against him, the other responding officers, or the general public?

The recurrent expression of outrage by critics and the mainstream media about the use of deadly force by police officers against unarmed individuals fails to recognize that since 2000 at least 57 suspects have taken officers’ weapons and murdered the police officer with it.

Saw a video a while back of a cop doing something similar to this.  He had his gun drawn but did not want to shoot the suspect.  He just kept screaming for the guy to put his hands up.  The suspect ended up pulling out a long gun off the seat of his truck and killed the cop.  It's a crap shoot, it worked out this time; maybe not the next one though.

The officer's body camera -- which Kidder's family bought for him after the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri -- captured the suspect rushing toward Kidder, unfazed by the officer's handgun. Dispatchers had told Kidder the suspect might have a gun under his car seat and might attempt to commit "suicide by cop," WLWT reported.

Obviously the new-times hero was one of those afraid of crossing the "Hands up, don't shoot" crowd.
