"Whitey" must have suppressed the African-American vote by closing Driver License Departments, had thugs at the poles keeping African-Americans away from voting, the new mayor must have been married to a African-American, or maybe the citizens just wised up and are tired of being the murder capital of the south and want change. Like Obama promised.

Sounds familiar, but whitey can't get away with that like some. I was surprised

at the number of blacks voting for Strickland.

I lived in Memphis for 18 years, and we left behind a daughter, niece, nephew and sister.  The town's completely dysfunctional in every way.  I saw a small office with maybe 10 employees in Germantown--with an armed guard on the front door.  Every business in Memphis has guards every hour they're open.I remember Memphis as the cleanest large city in the U.S.  We'd get out late nights and run around hitting our favorite bars like T Tommy's Western Lounge (Madison Ave.), The Poor and Hungry Cafe (Madison Ave.), J Wags before the owner came out and made it a gay bar and The Bucaneer.  We'd close the doors at Alex's Tavern at 2:00 a.m. and play long board until daylight.

My sister lives in an armed encampment in an expensive neighborhood and all cars have to be kept in garages to keep'em from being broken into.  Every time a few people come over, she has to hire an off duty Memphis policeman to guard the cars in her front yard and on the street.  Kids cannot ride their bicycles in their own neighborhoods.  And they pay $50K+ for 4 grandkids to go to private schools because no kids of decent upbringing in Memphis go to public no-schools.

I welcome a new mayor that may show some honesty in an otherwise completely corrupt city government.
