John Crowder FINALLY got the City of Florence to post their agenda online (sort of, if you want a VERY abreviated version) I just wonder why they won't post the minutes from their meetings. Of course, emailed this idea to all of them (AS USUAL, only SCOTT CARRIER replied) but if they won't change the meeting times and only allow Comonopoly to broadcast it live, it seems too secretive to me. That is about the only thing I miss about Comcast, and for a while it was the best show on TV. LIVE overlooking PINE STREET IT'S THE FLORENCE CITY CLOWNCIL MEETING FEATURING ELIZABETH ROMINE! Now THAT was entertainment! Any thoughts? THE DOG

Comcast is the only outlet for the council meetings to be broadcast live. Direct and Dish Network do not support local programing or inserts and broadcast stations would charge for the air time. Council meetings are public record, so it's illegal to edit them. That means if it's 15 minutes or 3 hours, if the meeting is going to air it must be in it's entirety. No broadcast station would be able to do this, so that just leaves Comcast.

As for posting the minutes, that can be very time and resource consuming. Council agendas are large packets of information. The cover sheet gives a brief description of each item in the order the council will discuss it. That's probably what's being posted.

If there is a particular issue that you're interested in, you can request a copy of the agenda from the city. You can also request the minutes from any public meeting in the past. All of those are public record and have to be made available for the asking. Also, Comcast probably records the meetings. You can request a copy from either the city or Comcast, but you'll have to pay a duplication fee.

I remember Miss Romine, she was nuts but she kept the council in check for a while. What happened to her?
Well Nash, you are probably right, but it seems like they could post some sort of abbreviated version, like they do of the agenda. I know you can buy copies, I just don't know how much they cost. If it as much as a Florence Police Report (2 dollars a page) the ol dog can't afford it, so I guess I'll be ignorant. I still say, isn't that what the City Council of Florence wants in the first place? (with the exception of Scott, who I may call to get minutes) THE DOG
