Maybe I just expected too much. They spent 15 min. reading a list of deceased people. There was nothing except the children singing (which was very good). There were no vendors for food or anything. The general atmosphere was not very exciting. At least the mayor's speech was very short. And, if you were not standing next to the singing, you could not even see them. Very bad set up.

Hopefully next year the kids will be taller and the list shorter.
Realistically, no vendor in his/her right mind would set up for coffee or hot chocolate for an event which is so small and so short. There are several establishments within walking distance that serve warm beverages. The purpose of the event is not to hawk beverages and sovinirs; the purpose is to bring in the Christmas season in a quiet, community-minded manner.

Point taken, but I was thinking more of bringing comfort to people that braved that wicked cold weather to put on and support the event than "hawking" anything. A folding table with containers of hot water , styrofoam cups, packages of cocoa and instant coffee could be easily set up. And no, I'm not volunteering. Wink
It was not the first tree lighting. They have one every year.

This was the first lighting that used a live tree from Wilson Park that is being grown for this specific purpose. I didn't go because of the cold, but I've always heard they are beautiful.

BTW, the TD specifically mentioned that the library was selling hot drinks, just across the street. Were there no signs or announcements at the ceremony?
