Florida seems to be not a whit behind Alabama in the mismanagement of its prison system and its failure to correct abuses.

"A shower so scalding, it melted off one man's skin; another man gassed to death in a small room, begging for his life; beatings and torture and threats -- and after all of it, a cover-up."

I yam what I yam and that's all I yam--but it is enough!

I am never surprised at the terrible things that people do anymore.  Man's inhumanity to man is astounding. One would hope that these people (guards and acre givers) would be held accountable, but it just never seems to happen. I am not gullible enough to think that every incident that occurs has not somehow be instigated by the incarcerated, but those in control for the most part are supposed to hold the higher moral ground.

Female inmates being raped and brutalized in the Wetumpka prison is no more disturbing than what happens to the young males in the other prisons. The prison system is a mess, and for the most part I think the majority of people in it are there because of our futile "war on drugs".  I saw a man once who had a heart attack three days before his scheduled execution. He was revived at the scene, and sent to the hospital where he stayed about three weeks in ICU on the ventilator before finally dying. As sad it was, it was probably best if they had just let the man die when he collapsed. Instead they spent millions of dollars of tax payer money trying to save his life, so that he could go back to death row.  He had killed a child if I remember correctly as to the reason he was on death row, so it was hard to have a whole lot of sympathy for him. The brutality however of treating a mentally impaired individual to a scalding shower for over an hour though is just something I cannot stomach. How did we get here?

There are certain professions that attract predators who want easy prey and I suspect the incarceration industry is one of those. There are some professions like the clergy and law enforcement that attract both the best of people who want to save society and the worst who desire access to prey; but there is some imperfect effort to screen out the worst of people in these professions. That imperfection is because it is hard to believe that the seemingly great guy in ones presence might be a monster out of sight.

How did we get here?

There are a thousand reasons. One, people are sick and tired of criminals being pampered instead of punished, and so they have turned their backs on the system and figure if criminals get a little of what's coming to them in jail, so much the better. You can be sure we are only getting one side of the story when these things are reported, with no way of knowing what has been made up, embellished, twisted, or lied about. Read all these 'horror' stories you want, and then read a few horror stories about what criminals have done, and how the system bent over backwards to protect them. Another way we got here, affirmative action, lowering standards, and hiring the foxes to guard the hen houses. Take that any way you want to take it. Yep, there are a thousand ways we got here, but only wanting to lay it on ONE doorstep is wrong and why I and others don't care anymore. Anything you'd do to protect the criminals would upset them and they'd start yapping about losing their 'privacy' and 'rights'.

Your blah-blah-blah blithering on this subject is so predictable that it has become just plain boring and tiresome.  You are clearly out of step with reality..

As has your numerous threads on the same subject. What is your reality? Why don't you like having your stories challenged? Just what did I post that isn't correct? Why not take my post step by step and show me where it's wrong? Teyates asked how we got here, I offered a few opinions, dispute them.

I just needed further verification other than MH, MH, MH. And to know investigations by authorities are/will take place.  But has any agency come out with a statement that they will investigate the MH allegations?  Surely, I missed it somewhere.

Now I need verification of Contendah's comment:  "Florida seems to be not a whit behind Alabama in the mismanagement of its prison system and its failure to correct abuses".

Anybody?
